People back in 2012- 2015 started giving their power away to Critics and Websites. After that, the new kids to /mu/ would always have those first "baby steps" into Death Grips, Grimes, Deafheaven, etc. along with classic /mu/core and next thing you know, because of how these critics and websites act towards one another, everybody walks around here with a superiority complex. Some people on this sight will never post an album with over 1,000 ratings on RYM ever again. And whether that's because of plain shit taste or just insecurity, that's just pretty fucking sad. 2016 was the year that it was obvious, this board was falling apart. And of course we did everything we could to discredit Fantano and Pitchfork, but then we realized that after Planetarium got panned, that it's not their fault. Some people just have shit taste and opinions. You can't take anything personal... grow some balls, and share the music you truly love

Since then there has fairly constantly been a kpop thread.

Those guys have always been here, it just used to be that nobody felt the urge to shit themselves in indignation every time somebody called someone else a nigger or a faggot or made a thread about Burzum.
I find much of the alt-right stuff to be an irritating Internet byproduct, but /pol/ has more of a claim to this board than Tumblr does.

I have no idea where this idea of /mu/ as an enlightened, well-behaved, liberal paradise comes from. For fuck's sake, this board used to doxx 13-year old kids for fun.

Agreed, we just got older. To me /mu/ was at its most vibrant stage when I was just starting high school, discovered /mu/ and tried to develop my music taste with the secondary purpose of being accepted and being cool. Years passed, I learned to enjoy music on a more personal level and no longer feel the need to share my music tastes with other people cause now I only care about the music I listen to. And so I started posting less and less on /mu/ and I assume the same happened to the people who started browsing /mu/ at the same time as me. People matured, and a new wave of high school kids seeking validation for their music tastes found /mu/. And they will eventually grow out of the need for validation too, while another wave will replace them. The cycle continues.
