Probably not gonna get a sticky nor much publicity, but I have always loved that they may have been the one band that most seemlessly integrated very complex harmonic progressions and extra busy sounding stuff into pop music. Their content can easily be more complex than even the likes of King Crimson or Yes at times, yet still have it in a poppy context thus making the music easier to digest than those two.
Crying in 24bit 96khz flac right now.

The computer commercials promise plug-in-and-surf, but there's always a glitch. At work you're too embarrassed to ask the young tech guys how the "web" works. They'd snicker before cranking The Fragile back up and turning back to their monitors. Never show inferiority to subordinates. So, you pony-tailed Jeep-drivers and terrier-walkers, I'm crawling inside your minds like "Reeling in the Years" did so many decades ago. I know you've held silly suspicions, if just for a moment, that your ponytail was perhaps pulling back your hairline. I know that this review might hurt your feelings. Just get the fuck out. The point was never to be a straight rock/jazz/fusion/r&b/soul/pop group even though all of those genres are clearly in their DNA. Their musicanship, perfectionism/innovation in the studio, and ironic lyrics are all admirable qualities but I wouldnt expect a pleb like you to understand.

Pitchfork writers have an obsession with reviewing the modern relevance of music rather than the music itself. It's far easier to talk about how cool music is than to talk about melodies, textures, harmonies, etc. Of course if you actually want to talk about the music then you don't get the opportunity to sniff your own farts and make yourself the arbiter of cool. Pitchfork are happy to make that trade.
