I think it's more of a disdain for its fans. Same thing with Tool. There's this stereotype of its fans being pretentious faggots. But I haven't even found that to be the case with Sunbather.

It's also probably because the black metal community is super judgemental, and hates anything that gets associated in anyway with them that isn't trve bm. So it gets criticized as gayboi nu-male metal.

Also the lyrics are a lot about economic,inequality and resenting wealth. So it probably doesn't sit well with all the anti-commie /pol/-ites.

They sound nothing alike. Snowing is lightly-driven jangly guitars and whiny/shouted vocals. Orchid is closer, and while I agree that some of their rhythms and guitar work are black metal-esque, they're not as drawn-out and repetitive as a band like Deafheaven (or nearly any non-crossover black metal band), as the focus is on a hardcore-influenced feeling of chaos instead of the atmospheric approach of BM
