very handsome album cover
>>74926010
That's not even the best Coltrane album and it's still a strong 10.
The bass vocals at the end of river song are so sexy. Probably the muskiest album I've ever heard
>>74926010
>calls others plebs
>posts one of the most popular token jazz albums
>>74925951
Mostly terrible save for "Stand Inside Your Love" and "Age of Innocence" which are fantastic songs.
>>74925984
About a 9/10 which is great considering it's a double album. I dare say it's a more consistent double LP than The White Album.
>>74926125
You've got a point, not the anon you're replying to. But a Love Supreme is literally the definition of the Token Jazz album, along with Kind of Blue. Coltrane has much better albums, that unfortunately, new Jazz listeners will never listen to because it's not A Love Supreme.
>>74925837
I would say Scott 3, but it's close

but i dont want it to become /mu/core

Stop shilling your shit.
>>74925793
I've never felt that this album is amazing. The good bits are really good and it's far better than anything the Beach Boys put out around the time but most of the album is pretty meh.
>>74925851
For sure. I'd put Tyranny of Distance higher on my personal list but they're both fantastic albums.
>>74930019
I want to like Mike Love because I want to like every Beach Boy. Someone help
>>74930088
His early vocal parts were fantastic and got the Beach Boys where they are today. He wrote the lyrics to Good Vibrations. Yeah, he's a money-grubbing asshole but he was key to the Beach Boys' early success.
>>74930147
This. I like and hate him at the same time.
>>74930287
Dude, yeah. I think Safe As Milk is better but Bellybutton got me into Jellyfish so it's more special to me.

I've never been able to listen to this past the first song.
What are some other good songs off this album?
>>74926171
Dumb shit like this I'll never understand.
If someone garners a new interest in Jazz, these will be some of the earliest recommendations, yes, and it's deserved.
"OMG they're not dumpster diving my favorite artists discog, what a bunch of "plebs."
You'll die alone, and it's deserved.
>>74925793
>>74925903
More bands need to just write 30 songs worth of choruses then delete all the verses.
Kind of hilarious how fast they dropped off though

This. Funkadelic - s/t and Free Your Mind are also 10/10 in my opinion. On this board when it comes to P-funk, it's always Maggot Brain being posted.

This.
Recently gave this a listen and was impressed. Never found coltrane my kind of music, but I loved a love supreme.
This is like the opposite of /mu/core, which is probably why it's so great.

both of these
>>74925793
It's a good album. Not a 10/10 though, lol. It gets overrated because it's surprisingly not shit.
never mentioned and this is some of the most interesting synth music considering the time it was created.
>>74930211
i'm really enjoying this thanks
>>74932047
You consider exploring a well-respected artist's discography like John fucking Coltrane to be dumpster diving? You do realise he has records that are far superior to A Love Supreme but new listeners will never listen to them simply because they view Jazz as some niche genre where all you have to do is check off the essentials, that being. Kind of Blue, A Love Supreme and Mingus Ah Um.
So how about you fuck off, people who shoehorn themselves into genres by experience the bare minimum of an expansive genre or artist are cancerous and should be laughed at. Putting A Love Supreme on a pedestal as the single greatest Jazz album ever conceived is being intellectually dishonest and shows all you've listened to, is A Love Supreme.
R&B / blues / soul / funk / folk / country in any form outside of a designated thread with 7 unique posters.

>>74938248
>311 is good
desu please
>>74925820
Malice Mizer is incredibly overlooked thanks to over zealous, Mana loving weebs.
Same with Dir en Grey which is why they haven't toured the west in years.
Radio City
THE definitive New Wave album imo
>>74925793
10/10's do not exist by definition. Perfection is not human.
(Except “A Love Supreme” and “The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady”)

That beard
That Hair

We aspire to this.
>>74948209
i like this album but it's a little too self indulgent and amateur to be 10/10, solid 8 tho
>>74925793
I think it's a 10/10

I was just thinking to myself that I needed to start a thread about carnival calliope music that would invariably get one post about Mr. Bungle and then three other posts shitting on my taste before 404ing, so thanks for saving me the effort and disappointment by giving me exactly what I needed!
>>74932782
Hahahaha. No
>>74925793
10/10 if it ends after "The Treasure". Double-album, too.
