Okay, so I've been kinda bored recently. My summer job ended and for a few weeks before I move out and find something in another city I have a little too much time to spend and not that much money.
Long story short I'm mostly sitting at home and listening to music and after a pretty guitar-oriented summer I'm venturing again more into electronic music, been listening a lot of sets on mixcloud and shit.
One day while listening to some Paula Temple or Ellen Allien set I started to think about electronic music genres and which are hip and which are not. Stuff like IDM or Trip-Hop is now basically universally liked by people who don't even like electronic music, same with ambient. There is more abrasive stuff, but if you show up at a party in a Prurient t-shirt no one would bat an eye. Then there's techno, and it's great but it's become so hip that techno fans can be even more pretentious than some old, bearded prog rockists.
The list really goes on and on until finally I thought to myself that there is one genre I cannot really think of as hip in any way, shape or form and that is Trance.
Once practically mainstream (at least in Europe) with stuff like Robert Miles - Children getting regular radio play, now forgotten almost universally except for fitness classes and mushroom fueled psytrance bacchanalias in your local forest.

With the exception of some old stuff that's been on the radio or some parties I only really listened to Shpongle and Hallucinogen.

So to you people I have two questions.

1. Am I missing something and there is some good trance being made right now.

2. Is there a trance equivalent of minimal techno or deep house. You know a trance Helena Hauff or Robert Hood and not say trance Scooter if that makes sense. Stuff that is self-conscious in a way and not 'stupid' for a lack of a better word (and I like stupid stuff too for the record)

tl;dr
recommend some good trance, old or new that isn't garbage

I like the second track the best. The first is cool too in a weird sense as it evokes childhood nostalgia, when eurodance was at it's peak.

Is it trance tho
>>
everything posted itt so far is shite
really trance is practically dead now, not in the sense no one is making it, but 99% of it that is made nowadays is garbage
old-school trance is much more similar to proper underground techno and house and imo is what trance should be like
couple tunes of what I'm talking about

Fuuck. OP here. This is basically what I was hoping for. Something you could smuggle into a set at a proper techno club and no one would smirk. If you have any playlist of this type of stuff or can rec any albums or labels, please do.

there's a youtube channel called 2trancecentral, start there
try le petit prince and r&s records for some labels with good stuff, you'll need to go searching amongst r&s tho cus there's lotsa different kinds of shit on there
