dilemma here, for $500 which type of tele should/could I buy? all of my options point to Squiers which I hear are less than stellar.
This would be my 2nd guitar, not too keen on how to choose them out
I trust you guys with my money more than I trust myself

This, ASATS are very nice. Or look for something used. It shouldn't be hard to find Bajas and other MIM models for around that price. Go to the shops in your area and look around, or even scour reverb to see what's there, it shouldn't be hard to find something. The best Tele I've ever played was a MIJ model a shop was selling for $375.

Buy a used Mexican tele
Mexican ("Standard Telecaster"). They go for $600 new so a used one should be around $500.
The Squier Classic Vibe is recommended for beginners and the Fender Modern Player Tele also goes for around the same price. The problem with both is that they're made out of pine. Guitars made out of pine fucking suck. Avoid both if you're serious.
