Why can't middle easterners into proper vocals? It always sounds like the singers are tone deaf. I've heard this in Ethiopian and North African music too. Care to fill me in?

Western music uses 12 notes because they're the most harmonious, while other musical traditions like middle eastern will have something like 2 notes for every 1 western note. So it basically sounds like someone playing an out of tune guitar if you're used to hearing only 12 notes.

P. Interesting to see how different musical disciplines evolved. Some cultures, like traditional Asian music, stopped at 7 notes, while others like middle eastern went effin nuts with 24 notes. The western equivalent is microtonal music.
