Kurt Cobain wrote by himself all the lyrics and 90% of the music of the whole Nirvana catalogue, while Grohl received co-writing credits in only 4 or 5 songs.
After the success of Nevermind, Kurt even demanded to renegotiate the royalties share for those songs, one being Smells Like Teen Spirit (from equally split in 3, to 75% to Kurt and 25% to be divided between Grohl and Novoselic, while keeping 100% for the lyrics).
