Bono's a bit of a twat, and their stuff since the turn of the millennium has been pretty bland, but I don't understand the seeming cult of hatred that U2 attracts. I feel like half the people who say they hate them haven't even really listened to them and only do it because it's the right thing to do. Albums like War, The Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby are great albums though IMO, and even if they're not to everyone's taste they're surely respectable, right?

He's a white cis male rapist, and it is clearly evident in the music of Swans.

Swans hate is understandable but at the end of the day a lot of the hate only comes from the anger many people have with Swans' dick suckers that comes from pitchfork-timism, and there is an assumption that these people and any other Swans fans think that they are special for liking them. And many people that dislike Swans consider them to be pretentious.

In actuality, even if Swans is incredibly self-indulgent (and very edgy in their first decade) and hyped up for the wrong reasons by many many "mainstream" alternative music sources (ie pitchfork) they are still incredibly unique and innovative and have been throughout their entire career, and the overall culmination of many of these negative descriptors still results in something that is truly a triumph of art.

Phil Collins is awesome. His career arc is brilliant, at one time he was the biggest pop star on the planet, and a lot of his music has held up pretty damn well. I'll fight anyone that thinks he's worthy of hate.

I don't get why it's cool to hate Nickelback or call them the worst band ever, they're not really any better or worse than your average pop act.

I especially have kind of a soft spot for them because their lyrics are bad but well-intentioned, they're usually about something like taking care of your family or being nostalgic about a friend you haven't seen in years or something like that. They never did any vapid shit like Taylor Swift dedicating an album to her """problems""" or trying to get media attention by acting like retards, they're just some dudes making mediocre music.

Their music isn't the most terrible thing ever. It is however, bland,mediocre, and uninventive. The reason they are hated is that back in the 2000s they were extremely overplayed and pushed.
