it's gotten to be overused (i SWEAR TO GOD IF ANOTHER INDIE BANDCAMP CHILLHOP SOFT BOY SAMPLES THAT COWBOY BEBOP EPISODE I'M GONNA SHOOT SOMEBODY) but there can be really cool, creative uses of it and I like toying around with it myself. The only good super recent album to do it extensively is Wildflower, but the regular sampling of old R&B by modern hip hop artists can be pretty good

Hip hop style sampling is overdone and played out. Sampling and modifying sounds is still a fresh field, especially when done in conjunction with a proper modular system.
