New qotsa isn't anything special, it's another "Homme explores an area of rock space he hasn't gone to yet" album just like the 6 before and the results are middling. I like it but wouldn't rec unless dad rock is your thing.

since when are genre names buzzwords? i will admit that dad rock is an obvious buzzword but beyond that? catchy maybe? i find myself humming the songs to myself all the time since it released. uninspired maybe? villains is noticeably more limp and less ambitious than any of qotsa's past albums.

beyond that i am just describing how they sound and my opinion on villains with "poorly written" because i think the songs are, well, poorly written.
