i wish there were more interesting music projects in these threads. it just seems like nobody has the equipment to put something proper together, or the patience to write worthwhile songs. the amount of fucking
>hip hop
>beats
>ambient

i mean i don't doubt that this shit is hard to make, and i get there's probably passionate people in here but so much of it is so bland and seems like was created in fucking audacity in 2 hours
don't want to be an asshole. but if the stuff you guys are writing is really good and important to you, please invest in the means to create it or at least spend time making sure it stands out in some way

This honestly is not that much of a problem. I can think of a number of projects frequently posted that, for lack of a better term, use "real instruments" to make some quality stuff.

Dig the instrumentals on the early tracks, very HOMESHAKE, Walter TV, Alex Calder. Work on your vocal melodies, right now they're so stream of consciousness that nothing really sticks.

Either distort more and hide your vocals or bring them more to the front, as it stands it's maddeningly hard to decipher what you're saying but also impossible to not hear the odd word or two.

Favorite was Sweater, I think that has your strongest vocal melody.

>>74836242
And Stuff was my favorite. Tendency towards shorter tracks is a good idea with no vocals but I also never was able to really get hooked by anything before it was gone.

Drums sound really washed out, don't have any punch, which contrasted with the guitar just ends up really draining the sound.

I think the reason I liked And Stuff was that it felt like it was building, that it was engaging me, and the other stuff felt like a single idea that got noodled with but never evolved upon.

>>74839580
I dig the first song, hard. Recording is great quality, vocals are super clean. I would make your songs shorter, (hypocritcal of me) the introspective breakdown at the end of the first song felt unnecessary.

Second song melody didn't hook me as much, but still, you've got a good sound.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm gonna work on adding more structure to several of these songs, polish them so they're less noodly, add vocals (I need to practice singing and recording vocals I think). I'll be sure to keep the "evolve upon" tip in mind as I'm re-working these

Do you have any tips for recording/mixing drums that might help my sound issue? I'm not sure if the issue is my mics being shitty or wrong positioning or ignorant mixing or what

I don't have enough knowledge to give you similar feedback, but just wanted to say I dig your work, I hope someday I can record stuff that sounds as good

Honestly unless you have like 6 mics it's hard to get it to sound good. (Unless you jerry-rig something by playing each part of the kit individually). Only time We've ever recorded drums correctly was when we booked studio time. Which I would highly recommend once you're happy with a few songs. The difference in quality between a home recording and a studio recording (even a bad studio with a mediocre mix) is phenomenal.

>>74849806
Appreciate it man, glad you liked it. Wish we had spent more time in the studio cleaning up the rough edges but what's done is done.

DEEZ DRUMS! Not the best recording as you mentioned but I LOVE the vibe. I think most of my misgivings about this have to do with the mix, up the vocals and the drums to be in line with the piano or drop the piano down. Your voice is fine, give it some room to shine.

>>74847974
I'll check out volume one, had 2 on during my workout, really liked it. Bad Language was a great song to choose as the default play. I know it can be a pain with getting samples cleared etc, but it seems every day that goes by more it's either on spotify or it's not getting remembered. If this was on spotify I can guarantee this would get some heavy rotation from me.
