No, really

Is /classical/ actually serious about underrating Mozart or is it just for the meme? I mean the man probably had the best sense of coming up with melodies of any composer. Even Beethoven used Mozart's melodies frequently in his works and that in itself tells a lot.

I think Mozart didnt necessarily create complec music but it is extremely effective at engaging the listener. It's just enjoyable. Music doesn't need to be complex.
People also say he was repetitive but imo that's just having a certain style.
I don't know other composers that really sound like Mozart (yes there are definetly some but I dont think they are too well known) so I would even say his style is even unique.
Having a unique style is better than having no style.

>Even Beethoven used Mozart's melodies frequently in his works
when? The theme of the 3rd symphony has been proven to be a frequently emerging melody in the time, composers used it well before Mozart's opera. I can't think of any other melody Beethoven is supposed to have used.
But I concur that Mozart is still underrated. Who doesn't believe it should listen to the finale of his 41st symphony

Because it is a bad symphony, a terrible mishmash. That Fricsay is great, never thought much of Norrington's Beethoven. For Hip 9th try Brüggen or Gardiner. For a very idiosyncratic take try Markevitch.
