Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, and Trigun always come to mind as being top tier.

This soundtrack was made by Ryuichi Sakamoto (I think the only time he composed music for anime) and Koji Ueno from Guernica (those into 80s japanese music might know about him, Guernica was under YEN Records, worth listening to, it has Jun Togawa on vocals).
This movie is one of the best animated films ever so if you haven't, you should watch it.

Yeah it's a very fun romantic comedy with lots of sci-fi parody and humor.
The peak of the Urusei Yatsura franchise is the 2nd movie, Beautiful Dreamer (which also has a stellar OST). But you need to watch at least the first 60 or so episodes to get to know all the characters before watching the movie.
But yeah, recommended.

The original soundtrack for DBZ Kai was fucking amazing. Its a shame it got pulled after the Frieza saga after accusations of plagiarism. Thats the OST that DBZ deserved.

Most of Abe's stuff has already been said but haibane renmei had good stuff. In the end it was one of the few shows that made me cry.

I feel like you guys like the show a lot and you trasnplant those feelings in the music. If you guys showed a random person a key song, it would be ehh to them. But because you know that the song is Satsuki's theme song and you know her character and what she stands for the song becomes much better to you who's seen 26 episode. I'm fairly sure someone on the design team has visual snow. The visual aberrations and characteristics texhnolyzed people had match it almost exactly, with a bit of extreme sleep deprivation and dissociation added in. That was part of why I liked it so much. None of my creative endeavors ever went anywhere, and I was pretty well crippled on multiple fronts. Then I found someone had already managed to make it into something, and show both its beauty and misery within just the right context.
I also like "A dog's heart leaping from irritation", "blind faith", and "threat and temptation".

All of it was good.
