Can someone explain the appeal of QOTSA to me? I listened to

They used to be awesome desert stoner rock back when they were Kyuss and their various band members have done cool shit with other bands and musicians as well.

QOTSA itself has a handful of sweet hits but yeah their sound is only rarely something truly unique. Give Songs for the Deaf a try, it's generally considered their best.

There's nothing to it, they're just bland shit. People who have no taste listen to them because 'they're keeping rock alive'.
