I just found this band and listened to Louder than Love and Ultra Mega OK. Ultra Mega OK had songs that were 2-3 minutes long, however on Louder than Love the first 3 songs are 4.75-6 minutes long. I then tried searching up some of the higher acclaimed songs like "Outshined" and "Black Hole Sun" and they were also long. Are all Sound Garden songs after the 2nd EP long?
I'm coming from Nirvana btw.

I'm sure I'll adjust to it, but songs like "Ugly Truth" I can't help but think it could've ended at the 3 minute mark.

As stated before I'm coming from Nirvana, Tad, and other Grunge bands and didn't expect the songs to be this long.
Yeah, most Soundgarden songs are 4-5+ minutes; their short punky songs or experimental pieces are usually like 2-3 minutes though.

no. as >>74796826 said, most songs are comparitively long after the second ep, but there are some shorter songs on them too

Wait until you get to Badmotorfinger. Most of the songs are 6 minutes due to psychedelic segments of guitar shredding. It's awesome. Definitely more cohesive in structure that Louder Than Love, which has a more free-forming feeling to it.
I know Nirvana and Tad make shorter songs, but 5-6 minutes isn't too bad of a song length. Tool is another band you're probably gonna end up hearing eventually (if you're listening through 90s alternative metal), and their songs reach 8 to 12 minutes on a frequent basis. Still worth it though.
Either way, enjoy their discography. Soundgarden is definitely one of the better ends of grunge and alternative metal. Chris' voice (especially on their earlier album) is fantastic
