What does /mu/ think of Tom Petty (& the Heartbreakers)?
pretty fucking boring
Good to great, especially live, but a little too 'safe' to be anything other than good-great Americana rock. A thoroughly respectable band, hard to hate them unless you hate music.
Better than Mellencamp and kicks the shit out of that hack Springsteen.
So many hit's to choose from: Free Fallin', American Girl, I Won't Back Down, Mary Janes' Last Dance, Runnin' Down a Dream, Breakdown, Don't Do Me Like That, Don't Come Around Here No More, Refugee, You Got Lucky, Learning To Fly, Jammin' Me, Change of Heart, etc.
grandpa rock but not even the good kind like steely dan and yacht rock the shitty kind like faux-country music
This is the only album by them I can stand to repeatedly listen to, all the other albums fall flat for me besides all the singles.

definitely more of a singles band than an album band. A lot of great singles, but couldn't make an album that sounded more than the sum of its parts
