what bands do you think are truly different from the rest? bands that have actually put in effort into their music (not garbage noise bands) and have a distinctive style that can't be compared?
pic unrelated
>>
Death Grips is always the answer.
>>
The Go! Team even though a lot of their songs aren't very good.

Obvious choices: Beck, Ween, King Missile Sonic Youth, Secret Chiefs 3, Naked City, maybe Fiona Apple

>I'm interested in unique music
>But NOT music from outside my comfort zone

Really jogs the ol' nog.

>>74775153
I just want people to not post meme answers
>>
>>74775204
That's fair enough.

This Heat comes to mind. I think Deceit is still an extremely singular album and a must-listen.

>>74775083 Animal collective obviously

Maudlin of the Well will destroy you and redeem you upon a plane of being that you couldn't try to understand. Listen.

The Books

>>74775426
I've just started on "Bath" and I'm really liking it. Thank you, anon.
>>
>>74775083
AMM, Spontaneous Music Ensemble, Magma, The Pop Group, John Zorn, Sun City Girls.
I would recommend starting with AMM's debut AMMMusic.
>>
>>74775787
Forgot to add Scott Walker - Tilt, The Drift, Bish Bosch.
>>
>>74775083
The Pop Group

There's just nothing like Listener out there, and Volbeat's kinda unique but that's mostly the accent and random Dutch in the songs
>>
boredoms

As much as some people will give them shit, I still say that Radiohead have some of the most unique music in the alternative rock scene. Every album, save for Pablo Honey, has something about it that's truly unique, and they're all great albums.
Even The King Of Limbs, their weakest work, is insanely creative and interesting.
>>
TENTENKO
>>
>>74775083
You said "not garbage noise bands", but how about noise rock?
Lightning Bolt's pretty fucking unique, and their music generally isn't wall-of-sound noise.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JpHoAnaPK0
>>
Cocteau twins had a very unique sound for their time
>>
>>74776879
its still unique desu
>>
>>74776879
This, for sure. I still haven't found an album that sounds anything like Heaven Or Las Vegas, and that's their MOST accessible album. Their less accessible stuff is crazy unique and awesome.
>>
>>74776912
nah dude their most accessible (least unique) is FFC
>>
>>74776929
I haven't listened to that one yet, actually. Okay, rephrasing it, HOLV is their most accessible of their albums prior to FFC.
>>
>>74776980
Tru. You're not missing out on much with FFC though. M&K is way better -- Serpentskirt shits on almost everything on FFC.
>>
>>74775083
probably tylo be chillin
>>
>>74775787
also AMM released a really nice live album called "before driving to the chapel..."
>>
>>74777034
I haven't listened to it yet, but AMMMusic is surprisingly accessible.
>>
>>74777070
>I haven't listened to it yet
...how do you know it's surprisingly accessible, then
>>

>>
>>74777098
I meant the live album Before Driving to the Chapel. Have you listened to Supersilent? There's another recommendation for the OP.
>>
>>74777215
WELL I KNOW WHAT I'M LISTENING TO TOMORROW!
Thanks for all the links, man!
I actually HAVE listened to Melt Banana before, their album Cell-Scape is fucking great.
>>
>>74775095
You could make a valid argument for them honestly.
>>
>>74776842
They're considered one of the best and most influential bands for a reason. I mean A Moon Shaped Pool. That album is fucked incredible. How do they keep doing it?

Kishi Bashi has many familiar elements, but I think the combination of them as a whole is very distinctive and singular.

Hence why he is my favourite artist.
>>
>>74777269
Exactly, it's crazy how they've stayed so consistently good in two decades.
>>
>>74775083
I think Do Make Say Thing is pretty unique.
>>
>>74777325
3 decades bro.
>>
>>74777358
Shit, yeah, you're right, since they started in 1985 as On A Friday.
>>
>>74777215
Good contribution, I like a lot of this

a couple bands I have a difficult time comparing to others,

Natsumen - a self described "Japanese Progressive HardCore JAZZ Aggressive Improvisation ROCK band"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFnPPcrxqeo

VUVR - a czech band that blends progressive deathmetal and jazz fusion in a truly unique fashion. beautiful music. 2nd favorite album of all time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKZd75PeshM

Disciplina Kicme - Serbian 80s post punk power duo. raw and powerful fuzzbass and drums action. pretty experimental at times, straightforward and punky at others.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JearAHzqBlM

bleach - female japanese thrashcore with slap bass sometimes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4Nrt7R17_U

I would add more but I have to go
>>
Throbbing Gristle, Residents, Sun City Girls, Slint, Ween, Suicide, Gerogerigegege.. I could go on
>>

I can't find another album that even sounds close to this. Take the swirling guitar textures and wall of sound aesthetic from shoegaze, and instead of using guitars, do it to synthesizers. And then they distort the hell out of the synths, so sometimes they sound like guitars, sometimes the guitars sound like sawtooths from a synth, sometimes real strings, sometimes synth strings, to the point to where you can't tell what's what anymore.
It's also pretty much just vibes and atmosphere the entire way through.
Such a unique, beautiful album.
>>
dis a good thread keep it goin
>>
>>74776871
I've never found a single band similar to Lightning Bolt, most people say Hella but they arent even similar
