My father

possibly the most influential jazz artist of all time
great for people just getting into the genre since his discography is pretty varied and sizable
not my favourite jazz man anymore though

His autobiography provides some good examples. It's an interesting read. He says 'motherfucker' on pretty much every page, though.

I don't remember too much as I read it ages ago. He wrote that he thought his kids were a disappointment to him, despite the fact that he had to continuously beg his own father for money back when he was a junkie. Kind of a hypocrite.
