well this was disappointing. I shouldve just lietened to the leaks. is it a grower?
>>74757782
No.
Its just hit. Like the last album was.
I have it on repeat to let the songs sink in for real and I love it during. Currently on 3rd round.
The only thing I can't seem to let go is to focus on the shitty sound of the drums..
Still can't get over how shit How You Used To Do is but very impressed by the rest of it, it's different but its still as elaborate and good as any other good queens material
>>74757782
got a high 6 to a light 7 all over it, not mad just disappointed
>>74757806
Fucking drums man. Mark Rankin worked on Silent Alarm and the drums on that record were like a gut punch. I guess somebody messed up the mix, but in the few instances where the snare comes out, it's nice and reminiscent of Silent Alarm.
The performance, though, that's a whole other story. Criminally under performed on Theodore's part, like, what the fuck's the matter with that shitty trash cymbal. Jeez, dude, you were in Mars Volta and, hell, even One Day As A Lion, a hip hop project, sounds better than this.
My least favorite album, it literally ends with a whimper
>inb4 Like Clockwork does too
hurr durr I Appear Missing

>>74757794
You're right, it's a hit.
>>74758672
Fucking Ronson, man.
>>74757782
listened to QOTSA for 10 years, had really high hopes despite the mediocre singles
yeah it's shit
QotSA are a shit tier NME-core band, what did you expect OP?
>this instead of TCV 2.0
Yeah I'm mad.
I just got pic related edition in the mail yesterday and was able to put it on last night.
It's a 7/10 for me, has some pretty good tracks on it. Fortress, Head Like a Haunted House, and Un-Reborn Again are all solid. Hideaway and the closer were both kinda iffy, and I didn't mind eithr single upon release.
I keep hearing it's a grower, but I only gave it one front-to-back listen thus far. It kinda gives me a "mellow, yet dark" vibe, like they kept the themes from ...LC going, but added the groove and Ronson to the fray. It's an interesting release but, at the moment, I'm not sure how much I'll go back to it compared to the other records.
>>74757806
QOTSA have always had shitty sounding drums in record, it's annoying

>>74760948
>generic
Yeah because Queens are known for their fucking Violin intros. It's the most electronic sounding song on Villains but does it well.
The worst song is The Way You Used to Do. But even that is good for Swing Rock.

It was better than I thought it was going to be after the lead single, but most of it goes in one ear and out the other. I've listened to it a few times now but not much of it sticks with me when I'm not listening to it. The riffs their first three albums get stuck in my head all day when I listen to them, and the later albums have plenty of memorable parts as well, but this doesn't stick at all.
It's enjoyable enough but not weird heavy or memorable. The best queens albums tend to be all 3, or at least 2 of em.
The only memorable thing out from this pile of garbage is The Way You Used to Do, and that's not a compliment

Do people really hate Like Clockwork? It's the only QOTSA album I could get into and really enjoy.
It's a grower, honestly I feel like mark helped them in some ways and hindered them in others. The tight production is really good, however the first two tracks sound like a mark ronson parody of QOTSA.
CLOOOSE YOUR EYES

>>74767221
Villains is Goats Head Soup. It's an OK follow up to an unbeatable career-high record. The reason the Stones are still so revered is because of the four perfect albums that precede it. That's likely to happen with QOTSA. People will point to the career highs and weed out the best stuff out of the ok albums. Unless they turn into Metallica and make a literal 0/10.

>>74775442

>>74776220
You didn't like Mark Lanagan? I implore you to listen again man. His voice grows on you. It really fits the structure of the album.
>>74776175
I think it's because it feels like it does a really good job keeping a cool vibe. It doesn't feel like there's any space wasted. It starts off dark and the abruptly goes into this weird upbeat tone before setting. Then Smooth Sailing comes along and has this dick waving swagger to it. Then it plunges into a dark tone with I Appear Missing (my personal favourite song on the album) and just ends wonderfully. The last two songs (I Appear Missing and ...Like Clockwork) feel like they're saying goodbye (for good) to you. I'm not the best at articulating things clearly, but I just adore that album from start to finish.
>>74776220

6th listen completed, and with that I can say I dig it. Not my favorite from the band obviously, but It's solid. Continues the trend of sounding different on every record but somehow still sounding like the same band which I have always liked. My only complaint is the thing is fucking quiet man, I don't know if it's spotify or what, but I kept finding myself turning the volume up, like on a song like feet don't fail me, I just want to blast that and it seems so low key without adjusting volume.

I think Mark did a fine job. Josh said he wanted a tight record that sounded like it got the air sucked or punched out of it... something like that. and that's exactly how I'd describe it. The drums are going to suffer a bit when you want a record like this.
Honestly I like this better than like clockwork. That one did not connect with me as much. They don't have a bad album but I'd rank this pretty high.
Honestly feels like a haunted house were everyone is enjoying themselves. It really feels happy while still trying to show it has teeth.
