Heard "The Pseudo Orchestra" in full and it has some elements I do not really enjoy. I think that the sounds should be a bit deeper in the mixing which would show the full potential of the samples. Plus, I think even though there was some of that, your EP lacks structure. Making a fuckery out of samples is fine enough if this whole process has a goal at the end of some kind. There was little for me to stick my teeth into per say.
>>74755707
I would consider this the better kind of rap than I am mostly surrounded by. At around 0:53 I think the beat is a bit off (1/8th or something) which a bit annoying but it's all well done enough. And since I'm not a kind of guy who would listen to rap in general I can only say that's the case.
>>74756201
>If I only have one song (in progress), is it worth posting on bandcamp?

Also could I get some advice? I don't have a problem with finishing songs that are mainly electronic (that i start and finish all on my computer) but finishing and recording guitar songs and adding lyrics to them is so much harder for some reason. I don't know how to make that transition but I'd realy want to since I feel like I could do a lot in that genre aswell. Maybe I just need to find a band but has anyone ever did that transition here and could give me some good advice about it? It would be appreciated.

would love to hear a bit more confidence in your voice, it feels like you're restraining yourself when singing. I like the synths you added though! I feel they really add to the song and they don't feel excess at all, they go along really nicely with the guitar. Nice cover yo!
Maybe you'd like this song to sample / cover / remix, your cover reminded me a lot of it, it's from the hoodwinked soundtrack and it has this bitching loop that i think you could use very nicely (timed yt link):

>>74756726
I was thinking about this yesterday, but slightly differently. I'd love to just make the 'perfect' album for myself. As in say everything I want to say in music, completely push my artistic skill to the absolute limit and create something that I could look at and say "oh yeah, that's it, I did everything that I can done musically". But at the end of the day you can't make the perfect song or make the perfect album. A song will always have flaws but you may feel like a song is perfect because people are emotional beings and we have memories attached to them for example. But wanting to create something perfect is one way to create something really close and that can only amount to an excellent song, right? How much time do you spend producing it a day? Do you have a job? I'd love to have 8 hours a day I could burn on making hot tracks lmao.
>>74756726

Weird stuff. Pretty good tbf. I will say that some of the sounds are a little jarring. Especially noticed it on "Dreams" - the harshness of some of it doesn't really seem to fit with the otherwise mellow vibe I got from that one, but that may well be what you were going for anyway.

I work in a US government program called peace corps. I'm in east africa and i work as a math teacher. the thing is, when i'm not teaching i'm pretty much spending all my time working on music projects. even at school, when i'm not in class, i try to hide away on my laptop and work on stuff. i probably average like 5-6 hours a day recording, mixing, or monkeying around with midi. but 2 or more hours can pass by and i come up with nothing worthwhile. i think that i'm trying too hard to make songs that i think will impress labels right now, and it's killing my creativity. i think the aim comes from trying to make something that will garner enough attention that a label would support me to make a great album
>>74757211i totally agree with you. i don't want to pollute the world with all the shitty songs i have on my hard drive.

Thanks for saying that :) I would say that I'm incredibly inspired by my surroundings. I'm in a way different mindset, I only speak swahili on a daily basis, which I'm okay at but struggle to express myself verbally a lot of the time also where I live is pretty rural and tropical, so the natural sounds are way different from what I'm used to in my urban American home.
Somehow, writing this stuff up is really helping me. I'm just gonna try to take some pressure off myself, not sure how exactly though
>>74757869
That's great man, wish you the best. I'm sure you'll make some fantastic music in your life
>>74757319
You say you already have a bunch of songs that aren't that good. Do you still work on those, trying to improve them? Or are you concentrating on coming up with completely new stuff? Sometimes a song that isn't that great can be turned into a good song with a small change. For example, if you take a famous song, a good one, and alter the rhythm slightly, change one chord, or even one note of the melody, it can change the song completely and make it shit (but not always) - the good news is you can take an average song and change one small thing about it and improve it dramatically.
>i probably average like 5-6 hours a day
>2 or more hours can pass by and i come up with nothing worthwhile
This is normal. Donald Fagen is pretty close to being a musical genius and he spends 5-6 hours writing when he isn't touring or recording, and he doesn't release that many songs. Many such examples! Eventually you'll come up with tricks to make ideas come more easily.
>the aim comes from trying to make something that will garner enough attention that a label would support me to make a great album
You are putting pressure on yourself to do this without even knowing what will impress them. Labels will always have an appetite for catchy pop songs but everything else you think they might like is guesswork, and you can't second guess those fuckers. I know this is what many aspiring writers are chasing, and I don't want to sound like a dick, but this will almost certainly never happen no matter what you do anyway. I mean there's a 99.9% chance that this will not happen, no matter how good you are. Go a bit easier on yourself. You already recognise that it's killing your creativity so it may be time for a rethink on that point. The most important thing is to write something that you think (know) is good. If you know it's good then it's virtually guaranteed that someone else will like it, and equally guaranteed that way more people will think it is dogshit but that's their problem.

Maybe I'm here to steal any good songs that I find. Didn't think of that, did you. Yeah, I like to come here and elsewhere to listen to stuff occasionally. I know some people say they want advice and don't really want the advice - I get that a lot irl as well -but I figure if you're posting your stuff here then you probably know it isn't perfect. When I do this irl people sometimes get very upset, and I just think why did you ask for my help then? People get too emotional about it. I get why. It upsets me sometimes when I know a something doesn't work and I have to change part of it or give up on it completely, but it is what it is. Here at least people aren't going to start crying in front of me if I do point out problems. Though sometimes the flaws are a part of the charm of a thing tbf. Yeah, I just want to help really. I want there to be more good music. Plus this way I get to listen to stuff that I've definitely never heard before, even if most of isn't going to be my cup of tea. Still listening to stuff atm.

If your next album is going to be totally different then it's difficult to know what would be helpful but I listened to your album regardless. I would be tempted to either go way heavier than you did there, or ditch the 'noise' side of things completely and clean up the sound. If you're going to go for a post-rock sound you might want to do both of those things to some degree. I also think you could do a bit more in terms of structure. Most of the songs go
>intro
>verse
>chorus
>verse
>chorus
>song suddenly ends
even noise rock can be, and often is, a bit more off the wall than that, and, assuming you do end up going down this route, post-rock song structures are normally much more eccentric than this.
>>74759807
hey man thanks for the feedback!! the next album will be a lot cleaner i think. the way i'm thinking of setting it up is like a foundation of tape loops and cello drones and guitar drones that kind of work in and out of normal-ish songs (similar in instrumentation to the first album but more minimal in production). the new songs we've written have more interesting structures. different drum patterns, time signature changes, more parts etc.
when i wrote that album i was listening to like pretty much only daniel johnston, the microphones and jeff mangum. the decision to add all the noise came later when we started recording.

Nice. Sounds pretty nuts. In the long term I would seriously question whether you really need that many people in the band, depends on your reasons for doing it obviously, but generally the bigger the band, the harder it is to keep it going.
>>74760114
The outro on the untitled one seems unnecessary, seemed like the song already ended. The outro on Last Stand works a lot better but probably goes on a bit too long. You did a pretty good job with the instrumentation but you have to sing with more confidence mate. Makes me wonder what you'd sound like if you sang an octave higher.

This is great. The production quality is definitely very good for a self released metal album.
I'm personally not a big fan of the screeching vocals, but that's just my subjective taste.
What I do really appreciate tho are the nice sounding chord progressions that alternate with the dark and harsh chords that are more typical for the genre. It might not be my cup of tea, but it's most definetly a very well brewed tea.
>>74756376
I love me some good ambient drone music, and this is most definetly some. I do feel like it might need a little more on the bass frequencys at parts though.
Straight forward question: Do you mind if I sample Days Of Gold for one of my tracks?
>>74756260
I like it a lot. Your dreamy voice sounds great on the equally dreamy instrumentals and I like the occasional visits into the cesspool of noise. I do think the drums could sound a little stronger on some songs though, e.g. "False Nostalgia For Teenage Summer Afternoon".

Pretty nice from a songwriting standpoint, but the mixing definitely needs a little more work. In the loud parts, all that was really to hear of the drums were the hi hats and your voice was drowned out quite a bit too (maybe intentional idk).
Also I'd think about getting a better mic for your voice, it doesn't even have to be that expensive to sound better.
>>74761986
First time making something like this? That is impressive, I love it. The guitar parts are great, her voice is beautiful, the production overall is solid as bedrock.
Only thing that caught me a little off-guard is after the build-up at 1:36 I kind of expected a part a bit louder than that. Other than that, a very very good track.
>>74761007
I like the feel your tracks have, although I'd personally like it more if you developed all the segments into full tracks or flowing into each other instead of fade outs and fade ins to the other parts.

I suppose this means you like the EQ, which I was really worried about, which is by itself an enormous compliment. I really don't have any solid advice to give you, because I mostly did it by my (and a little bit of my brother's) ear, but I'll give you some random quick tips as I think of them.
>Everything except for drums was double tracked and split to left and right channels, to promote width and those slight differences in recording of the left and right parts really amplifies the stereo feel, it feels in no way like a mono track.
>All of my equipment is relatively cheap and I had to compress things quite a bit to get them to sound right. All effects and plugins were from PodFarm 2 (I am a pirate, and a very poor one as well) and on the guitars I had 3 compressors and 2 noise gates. Sounds idiotic, kind of is, but I think it worked out pretty well.
>It was a learning experience for me to mix this album. I figured out how certain plugins work, how to dial them in, how to make them sound right. It takes a lot of trial and error to get things to sound the way you want them to, and you should by no means be discouraged when you feel something is off. Play with it, scratch the plugins, start anew, add 16 phasers, it can actually be quite fun to see how plugins change the sound of things, really gives you an insight on the properties of sounds and they work on their own and with plugins.

The only solid, rock solid, my dick when I listen to kpop solid, Dwayne Johnson solid advice is, you need a proper sound system. If you have an external sound card, amazing; if you have decent speakers with a subwoofer so you can hear if the bass or kick start to penetrate and hurt your ears, that's alright as well. The bottom line would be a nice pair of headphones that can properly reproduce a wide enough range of frequencies. I, for instance, wanted to EQ everything with my earphones which have minimal bass and a crazy ear-piercing mid and high boost. The best is to mix on one medium, then check on another, tweak it, go back to the first one, go to the second, and so on until everything fits right on all mediums, that's how you know wherever somebody may be listening, they'll get the full idea of your music.
Dude, this got out of hand a lot faster than I thought. I hope I at least helped you somehow. It was a pleasure, though! <3
