It's a joke genre similar to the category of shoegaze, invented by critics to make it easier in categorising a lot of disparate artists under the same blanket term. Generic conventions don't really apply to either – you could claim the former is defined by complex time signatures, microtonal pitching and extensive audio manipulation, just as you could say the latter is typified by its sugar-syrupy, noise-drenched pop sensibilities, but neither of those are 'definitions' and neither lay out a base theoretical framework which one could work under the label
