No. They're not great but they're no worse than any other radio rock band. Hating on them is a meme by people who want to seem like they have sophisticated or unique taste. The same people who hate on Nickelback will glow over the Foo Fighters even though they both make the same watered down boring power chord rock.

Its not just that, though that certainly helps. I remember reading interviews where they were trashing other pop musicians from some high horse they thought they rode on, it was the most pretentious and insufferable thing I've ever read.
