Gotta be honest, I never bother with them unless I'm really invested in an album. Their a nice thing to have though I suppose.

They should release them as singles a couple weeks before th actual album drops.

I used to always listen to them because I wanted the "full album experience". Eventually I realized they have the opposite effect, dragging albums down with a flow-ruining finish. I try to avoid them as a result

I mean if they're good I'll have them if not I don't. I don't count them when I'm thinking of how good an album is. But at the same time I do count them in deciding how worth it is if I'm actually considering getting the album on physical.
