The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

Graham Lambkin - Salmon Run
>Sound collage, Musique concrete
A masterpiece that I just don't fully get. The atmosphere is haunting and at times uncomfortable but where it lost me was the meandering choral/string/piano sections. The lo-fi-ness works both to its favor and against it; it helps capture the mood Graham was obvious going for, but it also makes the collages a bit "clunky" for lack of a better word.

Surface of the Earth - Surface of the Earth
>Drone
Boring, run-of-the-mill, crackle and fuzz drone that lacks any sort of variation. The noise occasionally thrown on top is nothing to write home about either. Not bad, just really boring and over-long.

looking forward to this on my chart
why aren't you dinguses listening to DLIMC?
>>74712064
because all of his music is generic garbage with a DIY tryhard aesthetic
Chart updates, ask questions if you've got em. New Christian Scott is a little smooth for me but still strangely entertaining. Exquirla was a combo of post-rock and metal that felt so pretentious I couldn't stand it. Not my thing. Saagara was very cool, something I'll be revisiting a lot this year.
>>74712064
>Power Pop, Lo-Fi Indie
eh
you should totally listen to the latest four releases in this red chart of mine.

I should post it everytime I post the chart. sorry
What are some 2016 releases you think got slept on?
This Polish avant-folk album by one of the Księżyc members is interesting, it's dark ambiance mixed with collages of various folk music to make a strange dreamlike atmosphere. I didn't think it was amazing, but it was a cool listen.
I FUCKING FINISHED THIS
IT TOOK ME THE WHOLE SUMMER BUT I DID IT

Juan Atkins - 20 Years 1985 - 2005 (2005)
>detroit techno
I love detroit techno, so for some ungodly reason I can't really get into this. Cute, simple detroit techno is my forte, judging by my love of Anthony Shakir, but Atkins' style is almost too simple and old-school for me. It's fun, sure, but spotty, and I don't care for the vocals. I find myself liking the Model 500 tracks the least, the most interesting stuff is definitely by Atkins' other projects. My prediction was correct, Atkins is my least favorite of the Belleville Three.

oh man i'm losing all my /bleep/ cred aren't I
Jim O'Rourke - Live in Japan, 9/16/2002 (2002)
>american primitivism, drone, avant-folk
My 3.0 on RYM is exclusively for the "Fast Car" cover. I like it but I don't entirely get the hype. My high score here is for everything that comes before it. O'Rourke's skills as a guitarist are even more prominent here, he's just as dexterous live as he is in studio, his performances are all pitch-perfect, and the setlist is excellent. His vocals are great as well, his smoky, subdued quality is amplified in this live, intimate setting. The "Fast Car" cover is the centerpiece, but like I said I don't /entirely/ get the hype. It's still lovely, and amazingly seamless, but the drone is definitely a weak link, especially in comparison to the beautiful folk. I love this man.
3.5-
>>74712590
it's k. I get what you mean. Model 500 and Infiti are best tracks, I also disliked the Kraftwerk-y tracks a bit. but the man did some amazing work.
What have you guys been listening to?
>>74712590
HYPE! So glad you liked the Alice, Pharoah, Dre and Gang Starr. Definitely some good shit on that chart man
>>74712661
no way Gok is winning now
fuckin hell now I'm gonna go up against a O'Rourke recc
>>74712764
discovered lots of great stuff the past week
I have found a love for reggae too
>>74712789
If I win, I have a spicy non-O'Rourke thing planned
If I don't win, I'm gonna post an image that expresses my displeasure at the situation
>>74712764
abbado always comes through
>>74712585
shit i think i slept on most things myself desu. the one i'm still listening to the most is Laugh Tracks right here and that definitely got its due
Bob Drake - Arx Pilosa i only heard about this year. it's buncha short, quirky piano rock tunes, retro in the way of van dyke parks or cardiacs. so far everyone who's heard it really loved it. idrk who here in particular i'd recommend it to (well i already showed it to lamb)

proper tourney etiquette
>>74712958
I just listened to it, did not like :(
It was fun at first but it just got old/tiring. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it but I do want to give it another shot.
Also I was not expecting it to be nearly as proggy as it was
>>74713087
"Avant-Garde Metal" well what did you expect?
i thought it did most of what it did really well for the kinda hypereclectic release it is desu
>>74712893
Nice! I should get back into reggae honestly. I had a great stretch of albums sometime last year but never got back into it for whatever reason.
>>74713068
Definitely! It was fun to go through and recap all the listening I'd done. Few albums on here I should revisit - AnCo, Faust and Unicorns are all ones I've been planning on retrying
Haven't really been getting on with my tourney because i can't stop listening to Mobb Deep, that album is dope af man

WAIT A FUCKING BIT DID YOU LISTEN TO THE RERELEASE??
Also do Borai - Anybody from London, top notch modern breakbeat hc
From a worm hole to a black hole
Guys, this record has a lot, lot of power, is Black Metal maked to trascend the vortex of infinity rather than open the gates of hell.
The screaming here belongs to a poderous beast, a beast that reincarnates in your soul for the time this record lasts.
My body remains the same, but my mind has live an eternity, it's the enough time to forgive?
>>74718736
Nice James Blake, Angles 9, Ground Zero. Haven't listened to Liars in a minute.
>>74718736
+yee, !!!, MGMT even if Wombats did the latter much better i kinda rep indie dance
>>74718835
i don't mind a picturesque style of reviewing but you fucked it all up with the last sentence, ESL-kun
>it's the enough time to forgive?
wdsmbt?
>>74718953
>even if Wombats did the latter much better
Are you implying that The Wombats are somehow better than MGMT?
Also I didn't expect someone to talk, let alone talk well, about Wombats on /daily/.
They are a huge guilty pleasure of mine
>>74719135
i just can't deny this record mang, it's all killer no filler and i love the dude's delivery. mgmt don't have a bit of that swagger
>>74719268
To be fair MGMT is not even trying to do what they were doing in This Modern Glitch (which is just a dance record), specially on S/T
>all killer no filler
The last three tracks and Anti-D beg to differ
>>74719409
>The last three tracks

have you listened to his latest ep that dropped right before the album? P good though it's like 40% rapping and 60% tape fuckery, which is what I've come to expect from a scallops hotel release.
he did get a DOOM feature on there though
>>74717164
>Dr. Alimantado has to be the most meme ass reggae i know
yoooouuu haven't listened to much Deejay then
the genre is pretty much just wacky Jamaican dudes memeing over popular reggae tunes
Anyone know any more bands like this?

And the lead single is nine minutes long...
@trans
listening to the Pryapisme album again and I'm liking it a lot more this time, the prog-metal elements are growing on me. I definitely overlooked how impressive the performances are on the first listen.

This is some Loren Connors shit, beautiful around-the-campfire atmosphere, the spoken word really helps so it doesn't feel (so) bland.
