Ok, /gg/ it's pretty urgent and i need your help.
TL;DR: i saved TOO MUCH MONEY on my bank account and if i don't spend some of it before September i'll have increased expenses for some time.

I've been wanting to buy an acoustic guitar for a while, maybe a classical one even. The only acoustic guitar i have is a western one that is out of tune beyond the 5th fret or so.

Now the only brand i know of when it comes to classical guitars is Cordoba, but most of their guitars seem to be specifically for flamenco, not normal classical play. As for western guitars i have no idea what brands are good.

Can you guys help me, maybe even suggest specific models? Talking roughly 500€ here, since i also want to get some paired stereo mics. If i were to not get those, it would be more a round 800€
>>
>>74720107
Get a flamenco model.
>>
>>74720135
Don't know, pal. From what i've heard Flamenco models have way lower action, which can cause some serious string buzzing. I don't know if i'd like that.

This one is better. Palm muting chords threw off my timing a lot. This kind of riff is good exercise for tempo practice. I'm pretty sure there's delay involved between input and output on my system as well because when I actually play it I hear it very differently time wise.

Are there any guitar makes other than Fender and Gibson that have good resale value?
>>
I want to learn to play the electric guitar.

I've got the fine motor skills of someone with cerebral palsy but I have an ungodly amount of free time.

I want a decently priced starter and an amp with just a headphone output (have absolutely no need for playing that shit loudly when I'm learning.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also a ballpark figure for someone with 0 motor skills achieving basic competence would be nice, i want to know if I'm looking at 2 years before I can even play the easiest songs.
>>
>>74722847
Their guitars are made in Korea as well. I don't think there's resell value on anything these days unless it's locally made in US or maybe with some other brands which have been made locally in their own originating countries like Hagstrom or Vigier for example.

But all this mass produced shit made with 3rd world slave labour isn't really worth anything. This applies to 99% of guitars made these days.
>>
>>74723060
start with something like nirvana or any song that just uses open chords that's easy to play then look up tabs tutorials or whatever. if you can play power chords you can try barre chords.
>>
>>74722847
if you buy a used ibanez you can sell it at the same price
>>
>>74723124
Any tips on guitars? I'd be happy with anything that won't fall to pieces in my hands and is reasonably priced, don't really give a shit if it's bright pink because it'll likely end up in the trash when I'm actually invested and got the basics down.

>>
>>74723060
You need to know what you like. Pick a guitar and amp with 250$ max. Just google around there are lot of beginner guides around especially on youtube. You need to find out if you can keep going after 2-3 month mark which is where most people often quit practicing. You need to know what music you want to play that's the easiest way. If you just want to play "music" that's bit broad and doesn't necessarily keep the interest going for too long but I might be wrong. Best would be if you have bands or artists you like a lot and would like to learn their songs and see how they do their stuff etc.

Fracionado on youtube seems pretty baller, he plays guitar along to a kpop track.

Also seemed like one of the simplest things to learn to do, just play along by ear a few times until you've got it to sound right, no need to bore yourself with a huge amount of tedious technical stuff.

But maybe I have absolutely no idea about his process and he actually composes the whole thing properly.

To elaborate and hone in on my point a bit more, I'd like to avoid all the technical and classical stuff and learn to play it mostly by ear and using tabs where necessary.

Is that even within the realm of the possibility when it comes to guitar? I played the drums for a couple years when I was young and once you knew how to hold the sticks you could figure the rest out yourself more or less.

Once you get past the fundamentals can you just go off and trial & error / use tabs to learn stuff and even come up with your own songs just by messing around or are you absolutely required to learn a lot of theory and practical skills?

Sorry if I sound like a dumbass, I have literally no fucking idea as you can tell.

What are you using for amp modeling, that's the main issue? Reaper is just daw... Also what is your recording input level - never ever record in so hot it will clip.
>>
>>74725744
So what I'm thinking regardless of what modeling software you are using: 1) recording too hot so it clips. 2) using too much compression and distortion tends to create unrealistic tone which breaks up to hell all the time. 3) use EQ to smoothen out the result in every case
>>
>>74725744
For bass, I've got the best tone yet with just TSE BOD. I've tried in addition to it Voxengo Boogex, Guitar Rig, Amplitube and it just made it more 'convoluted' but ultimately weaker.I cannot vouch for the configuration though, I'm not really that experienced. Input on interface is at zero(yes, and it still gets fuzzy)Also I have to add that I try to get good results on very low notes, since I use drop E
cont.

On guitar, I've used Amplitube, Guitar Rig and TSE X50. Again, I cannot vouch for the configuration, but it's mostly just the presets left alone. Best result I got with Amplitube, but while it sounds decent in real time, the recorded version still sounds like shit. Though the main problem is not the tone itself but the fact that i can't get strings to mute properly with my left hand, instead getting harmonics or just noise ringing out for at least half a second after. This makes it impossible to play fast staccato 000 riffs

>>74725817
On my interface it's not clipping but I can sometimes see clipping in the recorded track

What do I need to plug a guitar into my PC?

I gather I need some kinda preamp but I have no idea what kind will "just do" and whether or not I'll need a sound card.

Anyone got anything on this?
>>
>>74726209
The most recommended way afaik is to get an audio interface which is a beefed up soundcard, in simple terms

If you don't care that much about sound quality/buzz/clarity an instrument-to-3.5mm jack adapter will do
>>
>>74726296
Don't want to fry my motherboard by plugging something in that inputs some amount of power that it isn't capable of dealing with, All these audio interfaces are shockingly overpriced for what is essentially a USB soundcard, and using USB probably adds a bunch of extra latency as well.

Plugging directly into your line in shouldn't fry anything, i've never heard of this happening. Don't take my word for it since my memory is not that sharp though. Ask around just to double-check

Regarding interfaces, I can't comment on the price since I'm not that knowledgeable in the price-to-quality ratio of soundcards vs interfaces, but I can say that latency should not be a problem and for sound clarity they usually deliver. Practically everyone uses these so that must mean it's a practical choice, right?

Output of a guitar's pickup is a few hundred microvolts, line in is expecting a few hundred milivolts, i'm no electrician but severely under providing current to that is likely gonna do some damage.

>>
>>74738251
That's cool. I mean it's a great opportunity to just fuck around a bit when you have a complete song. The crazy thing about it that so many popular pop songs are using autotuner. I'm pretty sure if you give this material to engineer he could make it sound quite polished. Because it's almost there already even though the vocals are falling down under a bit. Very interesting. Also one thing what popular music doesn't have at all: dynamics. Everything has been normalized and compressed to maximum that from the beginning of the song it always hits maximum levels even for the quiet parts.

>>74738251
That's great. Vocals are always the hardest and bad singer can bring otherwise great band down. If I were you I'd write or cover couple of more casual rock songs, something what people like, nothing too serious. Then over-engineer the sound. Like really spend lot of time to get the sound right to match producers like Butch Vig or shit like that. It's a formula. You are close getting to somewhere. Of course your singing is about so and so in places but otherwise yeah.

now THAT is what tells a good bassist
>>
>>74711774
idk really depends which sound you're going for. i like the fulltone ocd a lot, boss od sounds good for some things and is pretty cheap, tubescreamer is a pretty classic one to consider. there's a bunch of really nice other pedals too. especially some boutique ones but they are expensive af. The Klon Centaur for example is pretty cool but expensive as shit. ehx soul food is good too. idk really depends what you want to do with it, maybe go to a shop and test some?

Yeah boy, neck is done. Now just have to wait on hardware and assemble.

It's not too bad. Bassists are like the boys named Sue of the music community.
>>
>>74742492
Looks sweet. What'd you coat it with, fiberglass resin or some kind of marine epoxy?

Really the only way to go, for epis at least. I quite like it now that I've replaced damn near everything on it. Super thin neck and low action.

Is yours a short scale?
>>
>>74742585
Thanks. Just basic counter top epoxy. This stuff. Really easy to work with, but I wonder how it will hold up with roundwound strings, it's not super hard.
>>
>>74742744
Yeah, it's almost a guitar, still sounds good and like a gibson but it looks like it's been through a war, good for punk.
>>
What are some relatively cheap and easy guitar mods that I can do to my ~700 dollar string thru bridge Jackson Soloist?

I'm gunna replace the pups and put in some meme shit like Seymour Duncan Invaders, but I'm wondering if there's anything else worth doing, like replacing the nut, bridge, tuners or even the tone knob/pot.
>>
>>74742816
>but I wonder how it will hold up with roundwound strings
Probably longer than the wood would unfinished.

>it's not super hard.
How long has it cured for? Some stuff doesnt fully cure for days and benefits from exposure to UV light.

>>74742979
Nice. I'm not really a fan of ss basses, but I like those muddy SGs for some reason. I have a crappy ss mustang bass that I put piccolo strings on, pretty much a git with a bass feel.
>>
>>74742985
>like replacing the nut, bridge, tuners or even the tone knob/pot.
Those things are only "worth it" if you're having problems with the existing hardware, or it you like to mod your stuff (I sure do).

I will say that you wont regret putting better hardware on once you have it, but you may not really need it. I recommend Hipshot.

>>
>>74743661
The vast majority of "high-end" guitars come with cheap-ass potmetal hardware. Hipshot is superior to anything a luxury git maker puts on their products, unless they put on Hipshot by default, like Zon.

thats why my condor is as good as a gibson

Who is making such an argument?

Is Gibson supposed to be high-end in your book? That's sad. Are you the dumbfuck that called the tune-o-matic bridge the best in the world?

What are you complaining? Tune-o-matic is damn great, stays in tune always. I don't know which kind of bridge is great in your books but there's nothing wrong with this one here.

For what? Connecting two landmasses? I guess it depends on the combination of tensile strength, length, and flexibility.

Though for guitar and bass, you want a high-mass bridge, with saddles that are both fully-independent and fully-adjustable for height and spacing, as well as plenty of space for intonation adjustment. You also want as much of the bridge's mass to be in direct contact with the body of the guitar, and not on two minuscule posts. A string-through option is also a nice feature.

The "best in the world" tune-o-matic provides none of these features, iirc. I replaced the identical copy on my epi for a Hipshot that has all of those features.
