Where can I find more like this?
>norse folk
Is this the new racism thread?

I hope this is ironic
Check out wardruna if you want commercialised norse sounding folk.
They're pretty funny.

Yes. I know some of you on this board will be triggered by norse cultural things because minorities are the only people allowed to have ethnic music. Anyway all I can find is either death metal/satanic, nationalist punk rock influenced, or old fat alcoholized men playing 1800's dance music.
This is some of the most esoteric, beautiful and culturally resonant music I've ever heard and yet it's almost completely forgotten. The only people that have been close to re-creating norse folk would be Wardruna (mixing folk tunes with cinematic romanticism with a cartoony vibe) and Jan Johansson (playing the tunes in european jazz style).

(wardruna, pretty shit but still)

(Jan Johansson. The guy went around Sweden in the 1960's as the old people that still remembered the old folk melodies were dying out and wrote these melodies down and re-interpreted them as jazz)
Can't find much at all like Myrkur though (just straight norse folk). She mostly does the black metal trash.

Not what I'm after. Looking for more pure folk. That said I love the story of how an autist that went out into the woods banging trees to find the right tree banging sound turned filthy rich through vikings. Also the live suite when he gets a british orchestra to play old norwegian rowing songs is pretty legendary
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqhhlmz6gik
(2:31 and 3:31 are both norwegian working songs turned into lullabies)
And I like his take on völuspa

And the show vikings in general is pretty funny if you're norse cause he adds loads of 'kulningar' and other goofy cultural artefacts to the soundtrack of a viking western. Together with Gustaf Skarsgård making all kinds of hidden references to bloodpudding and tomtar and stuff

This is a kulning, aka a type of herding call.

Have you tried looking at trad folk blogspots for recording downloads? That's where I get mine.
There's a few but 'folk yourself' seems to have Scandinavian trad folk. I suppose you're already aware of that though.
Metal IS scandinavian folk music.
