I am genuinely convinced "all classical is high art that shits all over any popular music" is a retarded meme perpetuated by cultureless Americans who mistify a period of high culture they never had because they're an infant nation. Spent an entire day listening to Erik Satie's work and it's honestly straight up garbage with about as much virtuosity as schlocky rock music and ridiculously vapid and emotionally manipulative. Garbage "classical" is just as common as garbage pop music.
