I feel like the tastes of "internet people" are so much different than everyone I know irl.

I noticed how a lot of genres became popular on the internet (sans normalfag social media), but I know no people who like them irl (except this girl who is a tumblr junkie and counts as a netizen).
>vaporwave
>retrofuturism
>darkwave
>synthwave
>witchhouse
>dark house
>retro electro
>dark minimal techno
>futurefunk
>eurobeat
Etc, and any combination of those.
These are all heavily synthetic genres, that combine in different meassure dark elements, nostalgia and post-ironic corniness. You get the gist.

Of course there is such a thing as non-normalfag music (/mu/ is full of it), but all these share being very fit for the internet. The artists are usually people who publish stuff mainly on electronic format, get known virally by word of mouth, has great appeal to the tech-savy demographic of internet dwellers.
Futuristic (or retro-futuristic) stuff has an appeal for tech-savy people who can't wait for things like VR, AI, transhumanism and genetically engineered catgirls.

Artist like Carpenter brut, Saint Pepsi, Lorn, Perturbator, Aimon, Initial D, they are well known on the internet, they pop up everywhere.
Across all ideological spectrums on chans. I've seen them rise in popularity on /pol/, /co/, /o/, /leftypol/, lainchan, systemspace, etc. Even vaporwave, that used to be a very hated genre became a staple.

Now I see from commies to nazis make remixes, videos, propaganda, etc, using vaporwave, A E S, darkwave and eurobeat.
Pic very related prompt this thread.

Has anyone else noticed this trend?

Music is a common language, it would make sense that people from all parts of the political spectrum would share musical tastes

That's a given.
What does surprise me is how prevalent those genres have become.

It'll probably become more popular in the outside world when the current generation grows up. I always took it as an extention of the subversive "edgy" teen internet culture.
New shit will take its place in 10 years
