This is often described as glitch pop + IDM + shoegaze, but what is exactly shoegaze about it? I can at some moments hear noisy stuff and some instruments blending together, but nothing that would scream shoegaze to me - yet, I've seen people describe it as "an album that's a logical conclusion of shoegaze" and one of the best shoegaze albums ever.
Maybe I don't even know what is shoegaze supposed to mean and relate it too much with Kevin Shield's innovations. Enlighten me.

what is there to talk about? its glitch pop
>>74678684
There is to talk about why is it deemed shoegaze
>>74678610
Shoegaze past 2000 kinda turned into "guitars making a sustained wall of sound while vocals are not really buried but kinda." Well maybe it turned into that before 2000. Some shoegaze retained the flavor of MBV or Slowdive though (thinking of Sway).

oh also Chocolate Matter is undoubtably shoegaze at parts, like straight out of Only Shallow
>>74679163
Yeh, I thought I accidentally put on MBV when I heard that sing for the first time.
chocolate matter, fruitcakes and cookies, to all the dancers of the world a round form of fantasy, design 2 3, international, dsco, sept all have elements of shoegaze
>>74679380
But what are those elements?
>>74679140
But if it's electronic beats that are used instead of guitars to creat that atmosphere, is it still shoegaze?

i'm a huge fan of breakcore and a fan of shoegaze as well so this album ended up being one of my favorite albums ever. i haven't listened to it in months, should probably change that

the approach to the guitar work is in the general shoegaze approach
