Strongly disagree, the album has so much technicality in texture and incredible detail to melody. It's nowhere near low budget. I recommend listening to more IDM. Also Depression Cherry is the tamest record Beach House has ever created.
>>74676545
enlighten us with your 200IQ 10/10 then please
>>74676575
I totally understand you're point on VCD. I still really enjoy the album, and I definetly clicked with it on the first couple listens. It's just with multiple revisitations, it's gotten a bit long winded and ages to me. It's produced well for an independent lower budget record, just with proper studio care this album really could have been GOAT, but falls short imho. But I respect and see you're point
Also on a side note, I'm not the biggest IDM listener but I have listened to enough to know what I like. Personally my faves are Panthu Du Prince and Porter Ricks, so I love enveloping noise around a pulse more than I like how people fuck around with the pulse. I say that as somebody who dabbles with Electronic elements in my own musical creations.

Usually yes, classics are very good albums. But when literally all of your picks are the most highly acclaimed poster boys of every genre it just shows that you have no taste or preferences of your own, and have instead only just scratched the surface level of what music as a whole has to offer.
>>74677784

Because that's literally your posts, faggot.
Fuck critics, it's about exploring yourself, not parroting a chart or critics.
>>74677841
you're ignoring my point. i'm saying that most critics overwhelmingly agree on what the best albums are. they are possibly the most well listened people around
i could pick something obscure and edgy for /mu/-cred or i could actually pick something that is a quality album
>>74677784
>still trying to save face after your bluff was called
>>74677812
I'm assuming that because if you have dug deeper into literally any genre, you would have picks that are less well known but (since music is subjective) you would consider excellent because your taste alligns with the kind of music being made on the album.
For example, when I was getting into post punk I started with the classics. Joy Division, Talking Heads, etc. I realized I liked the more New-Wave stuff so I got a little more obscure, a little deeper. Got into Devo. Realized I really liked the use of synth on this album. Got into Synth-Pop like Tubeway Army. Found Suicide s/t and loved it. Decided to go deeper into Minimal Wave because of Suicide, and also because of my growing interest in ambient. Found the album Monotonprodukt 07 by Monoton. Not generally considered a classic or an essential album, but it alligns with my tastes of music almost perfectly and I consider it a truly flawless release.
See how that works? If I were working by your logic I would have just stopped at Joy Division and Talking Heads which I still enjoy, but not as much as the stuff I found by digging deeper.
>>74677864
>they are possibly the most well listened people around
Are you fucking serious? They rarely listen to an album more than twice because they're on time restraints, not to mention their opinion gets skewed by the public because they need at least some people to click in order to keep getting paid.
And again, the entire point of having music is to explore YOURSELF, not pick at critically acclaimed albums and calling it good.
Pleb BTFO
>>74677894
this is actually a perfect example.
first off:
>Devo
>Suicide
>more obscure than Talking Heads/Joy Division
i'll just ignore that part
anyway, you finding Monoton doesn't mean that they're better artists at all. Talking Heads and JD are better artists period. maybe you just enjoyed monoton more, maybe you enjoyed it because it was more obscure.
my point is that i'm not going to say that remain in light is a shit album just because it's critically acclaimed, that's retarded. it's objectively a better album than Monotonprodukt 07. objectively.
>>74677936
>And again, the entire point of having music is to explore YOURSELF, not pick at critically acclaimed albums and calling it good.

No, that was the point that was argued since the get go, you stupid nigger.
>>74677984
>>more obscure than Talking Heads/Joy Division
they easily are more obscure and you are factually incorrect if you think otherwise. The most popular Devo and Suicide albums have about 7000 ratings each on RYM. Unknown Pleasures has 21000 ratings and Remain in Light has 17000 ratings. Also, the average normie on the street is WAY more likely to know TH or JD than Devo or Suicide.
>anyway, you finding Monoton doesn't mean that they're better artists at all
correct, but I prefer them because they align with my tastes better.
>Talking Heads and JD are better artists period
incorrect. Music is subjective. TH and JD are more widely known and highly regarded generally, but they don't align with my preferences as well as Monoton. I enjoy Monoton are better than JD or TH because I enjoy them more because I actually have a unique taste in music, unlike you who simply parots the opinions of the critics and for some reason takes them as "fact."
>my point is that i'm not going to say that remain in light is a shit album just because it's critically acclaimed, that's retarded.
Niether am I. I enjoy it a lot and can see why it is so highly praised.
>it's objectively a better album than Monotonprodukt 07.

i'm just saying that i feel like there is an undue amount of praise put on mediocre but obscure albums just because they're obscure. i don't like this.
i don't like the fact that i feel like remain in light is one of the best post-punk albums i've heard hands down, but if i say that in a thread i'll be called a pleb and a drone. i have heard a TON of post-punk albums. i still think RIL is phenomenal. i will not claim that some obscure album i heard one time is better than it just to say it.
if i genuinely do find an obscure album that i think are better than the classics i will shill it to death and post it in every thread i can. until then, i won't

There are other albums with much greater influence, or greater originality, but this album has the combination and collection of qualities that push it beyond all other albums I've ever heard in terms of my own enjoyment.
It wasn't immediate, my first listen through I semi-dismissed it as good background noise, but something drew me back, more and more, until one time when I listened to it in the dark of room, headphones on, and had one of the most beautiful music experiences of my life.

Tell me how much my taste sucks
>>74680663
I can agree with this post.

>>74684663 why rate is this it so low, is it just boring or something?

A legit strokes fan I'm happy
>>74687726
poor man's Velvet Underground
poor man's like 5 other bands
and I find it boring and predictable
it was a little refreshing at the time but I have no desire to listen to that record since

Because it's overrated as shit.
>>74674562
mmm... I'll go with Blood on the Tracks.
Really, of course, there's no adequate answer. If you had to save one record from humanity's history, it'd be Mozart, Beethoven or Bach.
>>74684647
nice taste
Not even joking ive listened to this album atleast once every week since it came out 2 years ago and i still love it

>>74675100
Nigga how can it be best if no one's heard it?
>>74691547
(Forgot to attach this one)
>>74675986
This hands down. It will never be topped. You can argue the top ten that aren't Trout Mask Replica but nothing will touch it. The only successful merger of blues and jazz while being one of the first and still most successful experimental albums. It's almost a comedy album. I have never laughed so much at lyrics.
>>74674584
9. I kinda feel like this album is a great taster of all the different styles of prog rock even before they were invented.
>>74674956
my favorite album of all time, 10
>>74676066
9. I am amazed with how not pompous the album is, while still remaining a great prog rock record. Just goes to show you didn't have to go all out to record great stuff.
>>74676566
9. This was the album that definitively got me into post-punk. Easily Cure's best album. One of the most depressing albums no one ever talks about.
>>74677208
8. Probably the best poppy Cure album.
>>74677781
9. This is my go-to album for when I wanna listen to something upbeat.
>>74679286
8. Solid AnCo album.
>>74680388
9. The best possible send off for Bowie and also one of his strongest albums.
>>74680635
8. This was my favorite DG album for a long time and I still listen to it on the regular. I feel it's kinda underrated in their discography, which is a shame. It basically took The Money Store and made it even better.
>>74680656
8. My favorite Smiths album and one of the most important albums ever recorded, I think.
>>74681822
10. I kinda liked their stuff before this album, but once I got to this album, it instantly made everything they'd recorded up to that point bad in comparison. Absolute masterpiece. Also way ahead of its time.
>>74683650
8. I felt like Pablo Honey was more interesting than this album, but still not bad.
>>74688179
9. I didn't really know what shoegaze could sound like at its most shoegazey before this album. Now I know. And I love it.
>>74688964
9. I keep saying that this album is the trap equivalent of a prog rock album, and I stand by that statement.
>>74691808
