gj op. what have you liked in the factory library so far?
>>
>>74670221
I just skimmed through the grooveboxes, they're all pretty fantastic.
I totally overlooked the factory library when I got Komplete 11, I just used all the other Reaktor products and stuff so it's like a whole new world opened up for me.
>>
>>74666744
>you eq out some of the frequencies from the bass guitar that the kick drum uses
>you can also sidechain compress the bass guitar slightly in addition
pls explain compression sidechaining?
plus, when I eq out bass frequencies around 120-200 Hz from the bass, it loses its character
any tips on compression without using an equalizer at all?
>>
>>74670333
did they add more grooveboxes to 6? i couldn't come up with anything on the ones that came with 5 lmao, i'd rather sequence them myself.

this guy might interest you, supposedly he's one of the most popular creators in the user library

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/reaktor-community/reaktor-user-library/all/all/all/8850/all/latest/1/all/

i haven't tried too much of it but schepperverb has worked for me in spots where other reverbs didn't.

>>74670457
saturation amp sims and or boost upper mids on bass guitar to hear the attack.

simple stuff. i know that guy meant well but imo sidechaining compression as a mixing solution should be a last resort to solve problems that could be fixed elsewhere
>>
>>74670576
what's so bad about sidechain compression?
>>
>>74670929
If you have to use it that means you fucked up somewhere- your sounds clash, the arrangement is bad, something's too quiet/loud or poorly recorded etc.
>>
>>74670576
I haven't even dabbled in the user content yet because I'm still getting accustomed to all the Komplete products. It's insane value for money imo.
>>
>>74671534
i would get komplete but it is too much shit i probably wouldnt use often
>>
>>74671534

>It's insane value for money imo.

the art of shilling is in subtlety

>>74671598
i have komplete 11

i literally only use massive and kontakt, the reaktor 6 blocks stuff has some great sounds too

the bundle is good but honestly you've got to really just focus on mastering one synth in and out before wasting time learning the whole bunch - if you're actually looking to make music and not just jack off over all the cool synths that is

Don't forget about multiband compressors like Fabfilter pro MB for sidechaining SPECIFIC frequency ranges over the whole track- sometimes this is a more elegant solution. An example would be only sidechaining the small freq range in the bassline where the kick's fundamental lies.

/prod/ what are your aspirations and goals? Do you want to become a mixing/mastering engineer or a full-on producer? What kind of level are you aiming for, lofi indie stuff or multimillion pop production?

I'd be happy if I could get my mixes on the same level of polish as Chainsmokers stuff, I know it's pleb af but I still admire the production on their title tracks.
>>

Did the drops, effects and shit also.
>>
>>74671659
If you spend more time with everything I promise you'll appreciate it more, specifically fm8 and absynth.

I got 10 for 150 on sale and upgrading from a second hand copy of reaktor- imo if you get a good deal, yeah it's an insane value

I would just like to Produce for rappers and mix for local band/artists doesn't really matter just as long as its fun.

Only got one reply in the last thread so imma post again here and give some more feedback to not be an asshole

Trip-hop inspired instrumentals some of the first beats I've created and made them for me to rap over I have no idea if my stuff is trash or not also any general feedback would be great, obviously not properly mixed yet:

https://clyp.it/jkbofz5k

https://clyp.it/5z1l0lqg

>>74672418
Comfy af, more pronounced and frantic drums could help the end to have more chaos but keep the cohesion, Look for a reference track that uses similar instruments (bright eyes?) then take ur own direction from there

>>74672332
>>74672278
Besides the usual practice more, try studiying specific instrumental and production techniques from a musician that you enjoy finding close what you want a sound to be like emulating that then pushing it further to reach your own idea is a good start, repeat for every part of the track and then eventually you'll be able to copy other techniques and ad your own spin on them quickly

>>74672216
All the vocal is coming out my left speaker only? also the backup vocal is too prominent try to mix it more into the background add some reverb and cut off the low end for a start, the third section of the track gets pretty repetitive and the singing sounds off key the voice tone sounds pretty good just needs some mixing so it fits into the beat better, solid beat, piano is excellent, 808's are in a pretty generic pattern but that can be good or bad depending on what your going for?

>>74672075
besides going actual crate digging at a store? /r/vintageobscura/

>>74671689
I dig it flip that shit

>>74671663
Synths are killer, bass tone is sick, like the drone-like start, solid groove but the dinging blip sound in the groove of the second half of the track annoys me
>>
Man, musicians whose tastes align with the needs of the mainstream are lucky people. Every now and then I feel like trying to make some popular electronic/trap track just to see what I'll come up with, but I just can't enjoy it, not to mention that I'm terrible at the production and sound design of it (although no wonder when I don't have any experience in it).

It's either, accept that you'll never gonna make it and be able to live off music, or sell your soul and create what the market wants, and try finding a way to start liking the stuff you are producing along the road.

It's like they have one less thing to worry about. At first you know you're shit, but you also know that if you git gud at it, you at least have a chance of hitting the jackpot, since you're making the type of music a lot of people already like.
>>
>>74672984
can i ask what kind of music you make even if its really weird theres still a fair shot you'll find people who dig it and cant find it anywhere else look at artists like merzbow

>>74673029

>>
>>74672984
It goes beyond making what's popular, you also need to be charismatic and lucky. Even if your music is awesome you wont find success if you don't know how to interact with people, unless you get a manager or something of the sort.
Being good looking does a lot, too. Just look at Justin Bieber.
>>
>>74672984
>Man, musicians whose tastes align with the needs of the mainstream are lucky people

That's what it boils down to really, because intentionally catering to the mainstream is chasing a moving target so you're using different skills there - you need to be good at predicting change and good at fast adaptation to do that properly.

If I were to try to do that I'd build a stockpile of amorphous music - stuff that has a framework but has no real defining features as far as genre goes. To that I'd add genre-specific material as trends demand them and it would maybe get close to the mark, to me that sounds cynical as fuck but it is probably what gets done - A&R after all was exactly that, just the matching of artists and songs to market demand.

Hi /prod/
I just got a Cort CR 250, i currently use Ableton Live, a Novation Launchkey 61 mk I and a Steinberg UR22 mk II.
Any advice on a good budget (350 $ish) bass to record Rock a la Deep Purple with?
Also, i sometimes use a Blue Yeti i got as a gift to record vocals but I wanted to try an actual recording mic on the interface input, any thoughts on a decent starter one?
>>
>>74672278
>>74672332
The thing is, imagining a sound and then making it isn't really a worthwhile goal. It's basically trivial to imagine a sound that you can't reasonably make. And it's actually easier to write good music without composing it in your head.
>>
>>74674969
Used mim fender bass. Precision or jazz is pretty much the standard. Go to a store and see which is comfortable for you

Sm57 is pretty safe but idk how it pairs with that steinberg
>>
>>74675235
That's just you kiddo
>>
>>74672984
I think it's actually easier to not consider what audiences want at all. Then you can just release it with no expectations at all and be pleasantly surprised if it's well received.
>>
>>74675235
It's not just a sound, it's imagining a whole song and materializing.
I play guitar and when other people hear me they probably just hear a guitar, but I hear an arrangement of drums and a bunch of other sounds going on. The goal is being able to create all those other sounds that other people can't hear when I play.
>>
>>74675265
Explain then how that's something that one should aspire to do. It's doable if you're writing something like orchestral music; if you're good enough you can just write the sheet music directly (although very few people have actually done that). If you're thinking about electronic music you can easily imagine a sound you can't actually synthesize, or at least something that would take so long to make that you'd inevitably lose track of the original idea.

I've successfully written music entirely in my head, transcribed music from dreams, etc. Not once did I end up with something better than what I can write by playing. Usually it ends up being rather uninspiring and I just abandon it.

You can consider imagining music to be a form of practice, but that it. It's not a useful way to work.

Lol your experience and methods of writing doesn't apply to everybody anon

As for imagining sounds that's specific just to electronic genres, and not many people use sounds that out there (incapable of being brought out from their head) so idk what you're on about.

I don't hear sounds because I want to, it's just years of actively listening to music, playing instruments and being autistic. Most things I hear trigger melodies and arrangements in my mind, so I try to put that to use instead of going insane. Hopefully some day someone will like some of my stuff.

>>
>>74676868
exact same thing applies. i think it's even worse with synths because you don't have the excuse that you just fucked up a recording or something and changing synth patches or changing midi is trivial

it's completely acceptable as a creative tool, i'm speaking specifically about using it to correct clashing frequencies/parts

Can someone tell me how to get the swing amd the groove when I make my bassline. The bass is more like subby and wherever I hear it in other songs it sounds fantastic and it sorta melts together with the kick and it gives the groove but mine it kinda always sounds simple and like it has no soul (talking about house and min house) so if theres a turtorial or some shit like it it would be great
>>
What should I do if I want to make rock music but only own a guitar? Are there any good programs for realistic drum tracks and bass tracks?
>>
>>74678084
Budget would be inbetween $1,000 and $2,000 AUD. We'd be playing jazz mostly. Intruments include 2 guitars, bass, synthesizer, full drum kit, saxophone. Occasionally flute, trumpet, euphonium or trombone. Not really looking for a lofi sound, though it doesn't need to be the absolute highest level of production.
>>

>>
>>74678100
Yeah you can create realistic sounding drums easily. Dunno about bass since I never use a realistic one, but I make rock music with FL Studio and a guitar.
>>
>>74678221
Make samples from all of that sounds u get from the plug-ins and use the samples(just record it one by one) and make another project using just the samples and dont use plugins at all at this project and try it like this
>>
>>74678267
I've considered it, especially since I really got into Bill Callahan recently, but I would eventually like to make actual rock music. Plus, my acoustic guitar is pretty terrible.
>>
>>74678091
Velocity and imperfect timing. Imagine you're playing it by hand

>>74678148
Id22 + adat pres and mics.... the drum kit is more complicated than "one instrument" at a time man. Idk anything about interfaces with more inputs so I can't help you, my suggestion is just the only setup I know of for what you need within your budget. Try searching budget drum recording on gearslutz...

>>74678221
Deactivate everything and then try freezing bro. How did you make it that far if it just crashes? Only time that's ever happened to me i traced it back to a particular vst (free but apparently unstable)

If that doesn't work, start a new project, drag everything in and freeze each track one by one.
>>
What's a good beginner tutorial for FL Studio?
>>
>>74678826
>How did you make it that far if it just crashes?
My laptop is shit. It literally resets for no reason. I dropped some maruchan on it once and it's been full potato since.

I managed by deleting everything from the master and mastering in a new project, which I usually do anyways. Just had a shitload of effects stacked.
>>
>>74678883
Please tell me you bounced the mixed track and you're mastering one track rather than stems because you should do that
>>
Hello! Can anyone post some songs that have really wonky / sloppy / chopped sampling? Where samples seem to be almost selected at random and are played at a very off-beat feeling? Like you hear on Jay Z's new album. Here's another example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-Qj-Q7_X8s

Any tips would also be appreciated on how to achieve a similiar style but have it sound super organic. I could just map a bunch of different samples to my MIDI controller and randomly freestyle over a metronome for a few minutes and see what comes out but maybe there's a better approach / plugin to help me get this kinda effect.

i've had some experience with behringer's shit and they actually seem to make decent quality stuff but i dont want to toy around with something like a recording interface. i've had a presonus usb audiobox (which sucks major ass) and i don't want to get fucked into a cheap interface again. the upside to the behringer is that it's 50 dollars cheaper for a lot more functionality. does anyone have experience with either interface? i've read some really good amazon reviews but i trust /prod/'s opinion
>>
>>74682629

Behringer's quality control has gone up a fair bit since they were incorporated into the MUSIC Group, so the additional features they add to their newer devices (usually developed by their partners in the group - the pre-amps in the 404HD for example were built by MIDAS) now work properly for the most part - in the past you would see Behringer products either arrive faulty or they would develop faults pretty quickly after some use but that's not so common now.

Buy from a reputable seller who has a return-and-replace policy (instead of a return to manufacturer policy) so you're not sitting waiting weeks on a replacement if you do receive a faulty box and you'll be ok.
