I was thinking of getting one of these baritone ukuleles for fun, to sort of unwind with between actual guitar:

http://instrumentgeek.com/best-baritone-ukulele/

Thoughts on which one I should get?
>>
>not just having a fretless guitar period for microtones
Why does that even exist?

Are you drunk?

But drunk guitar and singposting should be a gg thing. Imagine how much more horrible it could be............And fun

>>74657230
Feeler gauges + sandpaper work really well to adjust the nut slots. I just significantly lowered them on my acoustic, plays so much better now.
>>
>>74657615
My nuts are perfectly balanced no need for sandpaper.
>>
Reminder that all you need to know are power chords
>>
>>74657230
Are these frets randomly placed (outside of common tones) or do they follow any kind of logic to each string
>>
>>74657603
i was asking legitimately

obviously i'd get a solid top one, but the body is laminate. and i don't want to hear any shit about ed sheeran, hate that guy.

the main reason i'd want it is because my shoulder gets fucked up from bigger guitars. and it's a reputable manufacturer with reasonable price.

Because intonating properly with your fingers on a fretless guitar, especially when playing chords, would be a huge pain and very, very difficult.
>>
>>74657651
And it was a serious answer. Those type of guitars are literally memes. They are the worst of any world and it being a martin youre going to overpay for something that will fall drastically short of what the brand is known for.
>>
>>74657444
Why not get a fretless guitar instead of that microtonal bullshit?
>>
>>74657646
No, they're placed in intervals that produce notes outside the 12-tone system, traditional Arab/Turkish and Indian music "needs" these notes but they're usually played on fretless instruments. That guitar is an attempt to make this music playable on a classical guitar. Also, the frets are movable and removable.

just keep working at it, if it was easy everyone would be good at it. There's a reason why you like playing guitar, so if you have to progress in your playing to stop you from becoming bored. You can do it, you just have to persevere
>>
>>74661423
Learning Radiohead songs is the most fun i've had learning guitar, especially stuff like 15 Step, Nude and Bodysnatchers

How long have you been playing for, senpai?
10 years here, still can't play Knives Out though. Then again, i've never practiced playing the guitar by playing scales and what not, only by composing on it and playing songs that i wanted to play.
>>
>>74661501
change the pickups, for some proper fender ones. It will sound even better
>>
>>74661423
Paranoid Android, Airbag, In Limbo, Street Spirit, and Subterranean Homesick Alien are all pretty easy, I learnt all of those by ear after i'd only been playing for one year. You'll get there.
>>
>>74661526
I was thinking about that. I use it mainly for a fairly mellow, Lo-fi kinda band (kinda like Low), and the neck pickup sounds pretty good for that, but could be better.
Are there any you'd suggest?
>>
>>74661657
The Johnny Marr Bare Knuckle pickups from his signature Jaguar. You can get them for around £200 and it's honestly the best sounding pickups I've ever heard. But if you're looking for something a bit cheaper check out the rest of the Bare Knuckle stuff, they have some great ones

Now I am getting quite decent at guitar I'm slightly pissed off at Justin Guitar for forcing this silly A chord method at the start of the course, I am struggling to get out of the index finger anchored on third string method when playing A E and D. Which one is better to switch to - conventional fist finger fourth, second on third and third on fourth string or index finger on all three? I can do both although I think index finger only is more prone to mistakes.
>>
/mu/ newbie here, I've been playing guitar off and on for about 2 years now. I've been wanting to get more serious about practice but every time I pick up my guitar I go back to my
bad habit of screwing around foe 15 minutes and stopping.

Do any of you have any advice for keeping myself on task?
>>
>>74664654
I used to worry about stuff like this a lot when I was starting out. I still think about it from time to time, but I usually just slap my index finger across all 3 strings and call it a day. I don't really care if the high E string rings out or not, most of the time.
>>
>>74664654
if you're expecting to play lots of E and D chords with your A, stick with his method, if not, use the other one.
>>
is there any way to effectively practice bar chords besides just playing them a lot?
my fingers are starting to hurt but I really want to play mbv songs
>>
>>74665105
>besides just playing them a lot
Genetic enhancements?
>>
>>74665105
Form the chord shape then press doen hard and play the chord string by string and make sure the notes that are supposed to make a sound do. Then practice practice strumming the chord and going into another chord and then back into the barre chord. Repeat for a long time.
>>
>>74665105
Start with 3 or 4 string barres, then do 5 string barres, then do all 6 strings barre'd.
>>
>>74664654
that is so incredibly stupid. do not do that. if you need the high E to ring out, just use 1 2 3. i feel like you don't 99% of the time so just barre it with the index
>>
Do all distortion pedals cause 60cycle hum? I'm tired of the buzzing on my ds2 and was thinking about a rat or a big muff
>>
The tuning machines on my guitar say GOTOH, is this why it won't stay in tune?
>>
>>74657302

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRFLP5YZBy8
>>

>t. nigga with dick on the mind
>>
>>74657326
>>74657694
He explains that it's to preserve the guitar's timbre. It also allows you to specify precise intervals without worrying about intonation problems.
>>
>>74666036
t. micropenis anon
>>
>>74665590
Usually they have a noise gate to prevent that. It's the pickups that are doing it, not the distortion pedal. The pedal just makes it more audible.
>>
>>74665971
thanks
>>
>>74666125

>>74666169
Where is the screw? On the tuning pegs? If yes, those control how tight or how loose the tuning peg feels when you turn it. You may also want to take a nut driver and tighten these dudes down the next time you restring the guitar.
>>
>>74664835
Dont stop after 15 minutes
>>
>>74666295
I mean tuning knobs, not pegs. Whatever those little shits are called.
>>
>>74666295
That's what I thought, there's also wide temp and humidity changes where I live so it might be that, I'm just bad at tuning and I waste a lot of time with it.
>>
>>74657694
Because even virtuoso guitar players have trouble with proper intonation on a fretless guitar.

It doesn't make any sense to be particularly concerned about intonation and use a fretless guitar.
>>
>>74657980
You're going to sound like absolute shit playing it no matter what, so get whatever you can afford that feels comfortable to hold and also matches your desired aesthetics.

You are more likely to play something you don't mind holding and that you think looks cool, and consistent practice is what makes you better at playing.
>>
Bassist here
Should I get a 6 string bass or just learn guitar again?
>>
>>74666336
Lubricate the nut. You can use graphite from a pencil or graphite lock lubricant, or you can buy special guitar-specific lube like Big Bends Nut Sauce. Just pick whatever you want and lube up the slots in the nut and also where the strings sit in the saddles. The principle is you want to reduce friction at any point where the string makes contact with anything.
>>
>>74657980
The one that stays in tune, no matter fucking what.

>>74666482

c40 is fine, you can't really get much more for $150. Sometimes vintage yamahas like a g235,g245,g50,g60 etc.. can be found for that price but you probably wouldn't be able to find one if you're only visiting for a few days. Check craigslist while you're here.

I have a couple of good solid body electrics, one good acoustic, a banjo, and a bass, but I still want to waste money on more guitars. I considered something jazzy and hollow bodied but I don't think they can offer me anything that I can't get with the solid bodies and I would just be getting one for gay aesthetic reasons.

The obvious choice would be a nylon string acoustic but I kinda want a steel bodied resonator as well.

It's a legitimate term for guitars that are overvalued because people with far more money than sense keep buying them. If you want proof just look at the current state of Gibson and the quality vs price ratio of Les Pauls.
>>
>>74674570
My 00015m was £900 second hand but in perfect condition. The closest equivalent Seagull is around £800 and quite hard to find in the UK anyway. Can't say I feel that I have cheated myself.

I also played a Faith solid wood for the same price as my Martin and it sounded like shit.

Does anyone have any tips on how to play with a pick?

I've been playing for 10 years, and i'm self taught, and because of laziness i've just been using my fingers instead of a pick, now whenever i try to play with a pick there's 2 things that happen:

1. Shit accuracy on single strings because i don't feel it with my fingers
2. At some point the pick just slips out of my hand

Could it be that the reason i have issues playing with a pick (besides practise) is because my thumbs are hypermobile? My thumbs last joint pretty much bends 90 degrees.
>>
>>74678200
You can't be for real. 10 years...fingers...? Please tell me this is joke. Anyhow it depends on how you hold the pick, obviously, you don't describe how you are holding it.
>>
>>74678200
You are probably holding your pick in some weird way. It takes a while to build proper muscle memory and accuracy etc will get there once you practice more and be consistent with that. But before you start to banging away you need to hold your pick proper way, not in any stupid way like you would hold pencil for example. I think it's probably better for you to ask from your guitar playing friends for 1 to 1 guidance in person.

That doesn't make much sense, you know

I like it for the chord shapes it gives you on the bottom three strings, not to mention all the chords you can construct with a root and a fifth anchoring whatever else you want on top. And for riffing, having the root on the bottom string two frets closer to all the intervals on higher strings gets you thinking differently in a way I prefer
>>
I bought a used hot rod deluxe. I tried it out and it sounded fine. As soon as I brought it home I noticed an annoying rattle sound on certain notes. It seems to be a common problem on these amps and it's driving me nuts.

Put it on a table, take the back off, get close and see if you can locate it sitting in front of it. Play the same notes that rattle, it should be easy to fix.
>>
>>74680919
If it's just physical resonance from the cabinet itself, that should be fixable. Tighten all screws and shit.
>>
>>74680854
I can't right now. It sounds like it's coming from behind the cabinet. It fades in soon after starting to sustain a note and dies as soon as it ends. It sounds kinda like when you play loud in the same room as a snare drum or nearly any other object and it rattles in sympathy. My research says it's a loose screw or tube rattling.

It's not a major issue and not always noticeable but annoying none the less.

Anyone here play guitar?

I've been playing for a while on lent guitars (old aria HSS strat clone and a squier strat) and I'm ready to get my own. I tried an Imperator 100 (LP clone) and Arkane 66 (some kinda HSS strat) from a brand called Lâg that I never heard of. The store guy recommended them to me, I liked the action and kinda liked the sound too, but I want to know if anyone has any experience with them, if they have shitty electronics or go out of tune or anything.

Also tried a Yamaha Pacifica, kinda felt like the Arkane 66, and a cheap LTD that I didn't like much. What I really want is a HH guitar though.

I like how they sound and how they feel, especially the I100, but I wanted opinions on the electronics and such, if any of you have tried that brand before. I can barely find any info on them online, aside from some customer reviews.

Pic related, it's the I100.

Yeah it's resonance issue. Just get your tools and tighten up everything. Please unplug the unit first so you wont get electrocuted.

Lâg doesn't seem to manufacture anything else than acoustics and travel guitars. Can you tell the exact name and model...?

I did say. The ones I tried are the Imperator 100 (or I100, I found it by that name too) and the Arkane 66 (A66, ditto).

Seems like they name them 66, 100, 200, 1000 as they go up in quality. Then they put the color in front of the name (so I100-OPT or something means Imperator 100, old port colour)

I see what you mean, though, can't find them on their own website either.

I found this, though: https://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/product-news/lag-imperator-and-lag-arkane

I've been hunting one for years ever since I saw Akira Yamaoka with one, I love the neck and the finish, finally one appeared from the dark depths of japan so I nabbed it

Check out these links first. It was confusing because googling Lâg went to their main website and that doesn't offer anything but acoustics.
