What was the better overall genre in the 90s, Grunge or britpop

At least brit-pop was an actual sound. All the major 'grunge' bands sounded nothing like each other. Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden sound only reminiscent of each other. Though I should say that the actual grunge bands of the 80s like Mudhoney and Tad actually did sound alike and were an actual genre...

Britpop was always better. Britpop bands like oasis in particular loved life and never whinged about being depressed.

As far as worldwide pop culture phenomenons go, Britpop was much more exciting.
Grunge was largely a watered-down commercialized exploitation of sounds which were already kicking around in the US underground for almost 10 years by that point. The only people who found Nirvana and Soundgarden interesting in 1992 were the people who didn't hear Husker Du, Die Kreuzen, Big Black or the Melvins in 1987.
