I'm currently going through King Crimson's discography and I just finished Larks' Tongues in Aspic. All the albums so far have either been just ok or only good. Nothing has been extraordinary; nothing I've heard has proven this to be a great progression of rock. It is a progression of rock despite it's lack of significantly heightened complexity, and their use of standard rock structure. (Easy Money, I Talk to the Wind, Epitaph, Cadence and Cascade, etc.) But that wasn't very difficult to do. I'm disappointed, if they are one of the best in prog or even THE best the genre has to offer then the potential of this great genre still hasn't been realized. I do have one question though, does it get better?
I've always felt their discography overall is a little disappointing, but only because their debut is one of the greatest ever made.
IMO only Lark's Tongues in Aspic comes even a little close to their debut. But Lizard is also a great album, and most of their albums are good, just nowhere near what you might expect.

I'm not sure if you're not, but perhaps you should start listening to RIO, avant-prog and zeuhl.

I'll check it out, thanks.
