1) Click on "Only include genres:"
2) Drop-down mini-menu pops up
3) Select "Include all genres except:" instead
4) Write down "hip hop, metal" (ignoring the quotation marks, but keeping that comma and space)
5) RYM charts suddenly become a nice tool

Whenever I hear good things about an artist I look them up on rym to see what album I should start with. I don't use it for anything else

Any kind of aggregate rankings or ratings bullshit on RYM should always be ignored. The reason to use RYM is to find the good individual users. Especially ones who specialize in specific genres.
