Anybody else agree?
More like the Beatles of hip hop senpai.
When you say "Sgt pepper of" you imply either the best or the most influential, in either case it's not low end theory. It's Paul's boutique or Illmatic

>Paul's boutique
Really good album. But far from most influential.
That would be Paid In Full
Illmatic is right through.

I guess what I meant was Paul's Boutique was sonically really out there for 1989. That thing sounds 3-5 years ahead of its time. Most contemporary hip-hop was veryyy basic, like Paid in Full. Paid in Full sounds like ROYGBIV, Paul's Boutique sounds like every shade of every color there is. That's why it came to mind when I thought of Sgt Pepper
But yeah it's probably just Illmatic

except The Low End Theory is actually good and not wildly overrated
loveless of hip hop

Paid In Full wasn't very basic when it was released though..

From a rapping perspective yes, but in terms of the production it wasn't particularly special. Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, and Boogie Down Productions all had records out by that point with more interesting beats. But very few records sound as "ahead-of-their-time" as Paul's Boutique does in 1989. I think that's why it's an apt comparison with Sgt. Pepper

3 Feet High and Rising came out first

I love De La, thanks for bringing them up. Anyway yeah it came out 2 months earlier. And as much as I love that record I have to say that Paul's Boutique sounds much better from a production and ambition perspective. De La Soul is Dead is the better De La album anyway.
