:Our ghosts are gathering:

If you're new to this type of music, download the introductory 3-disc compilation I made for my father's birthday here: mega.nz/#!K8AgGAYQ!drHWbi646tZ3t0DRQZleKbcMBzEeQClX1NzOMzAuETs

(((other Anons are invited to make and share their own introductory compilations)))

i love these threads but they always die so quickly it makes me sad.

Been listening to a lot of Rome on my way to work. Makes me sad but inspired.

I am actually very positively surprised how many replies they merit these days. Half a year ago most of the neofolk threads I made died without any sort of response while most others were met with hostility. Now there is discussion of music and all around good times to be had - even the politcal trolls seem to have subsided.

What did you listen to? I love Rome, although I didn't listen to them for some time now. From a technical, production and lyrical standpoint they are probably among the best neofolk has to offer.

To everyone interested in John Murphy:
mega.nz/#!fswDRSBJ!ijbzN0xh8dV5Z2AazgcEelMAYnb2kS9uk-0NX95xWRg

This archive comprises all of Murphy's solo work (Shining Vril) gathered from many neofolk / post-industrial compilations and "All My Sins Remembered", a 2016 commemorative compilation made by friends and colleagues of Murphy featuring among others Nikolas Schreck, :Of The Wand And The Moon:, Blood Axis, SPK, Genocide Organ, Die Weisse Rose and Andrew King. Profits were donated to Murphy's wife to cover for medical and funeral expenses.

Some tastes of his work:

I very much recommend his and Nikolas Schreck's performance "In her thrall" for a demonstration of his capabilities as an improvising live musician:

i actually never saw any neofolk threads half a year ago so i didnt even know they were met with anger. good to see theres discussion.

a passage to rhodesia and Die Æsthetik der Herrschaftsfreiheit are probably my favorite Rome albums, with rhodesia being the one that gets me the most depressed. i still need to listen to more neofolk, probably my favorite genre. havent even checked out sol invictus and :of wand and the moon:

listening to this whole album on the train out to boston yesterday, great stuff
>>
>>74587269
Yeah, I highly recommend The Lone Descent from :Of Wand and the Moon:
It's got a similar kind of "big" sound that Rome can have, but also darker and moodier.
Among my favorite neo-folk albums with All the Pretty Horses and Flowers From Exile.

I must admit the only one of the big three I'm really familiar with is Death In June. Current 93 is often too dreamy and magical for me and I only listen to their early neofolk albums occasionally. Sol Invictus is kind of hard to pin down - Tony Wakeford's singing is a little jarring at first and much of their stuff has not aged very well. There are still beautiful songs in their discography and out of the three their sound is probably the most unique insofar that they have not been imitated as much as Death In June and to a lesser degree Current 93.
OTWATM is really good, especially their singles are beautiful. Caught In Winter's Weave is one of my favourite neofolk songs in general. Like Rome they are somtimes accused of being pop-neofolk and DI6 clones, which I don't think is a valid criticism in either case. Kim Larsen's former neofolk project Solanacae is also great.

Time to reacquaint myself with C93 once again, I guess.

>>74587638
How familiar are you with Death In June?
I would also advise you to check out
>Naevus - Relatively Close To The Sea
>Nature and Organisation - Snow Leopard Messiah
>Scorpion Wind - Heaven Sent
which is basically Death In June with Boyd Rice on vocals and John Murphy on drums, and
>Sieben - Desire Rites
When you check out OTWATM, make sure you get
>Shine Black Algiz
>Hail Hail Hail (re-recorded single version)
>I Called Your Name

Nope, not at all.
Alarm Agents is a great album. Took me a while to appreciate all the "skits" but Get Used To Saying No and Summer Is Gone are just magnificent.
