poor boy, no money for lessons. how do i learn guitar?

Just start with some tabs but try to learn by ear, learn some basic theory too but don't go into advanced theory until you learn a bunch of songs and get a feel for it.

Smoke on the Water is just kinda the song to learn when you're starting. Iron Man was my first song. Some Rage Against the Machine songs are good, like Bulls on Parade.
I'd recommend punk and traditional metal as your starting point, plenty of hard rock can fit in there too. Just remember: you're not supposed to sound good yet.
Also, I'd recommend finding an experienced guitarist just to jam with for a bit. They can catch little things, like when you're fretting or picking wrong. Just remember:
>Don't bend your wrist too much
>Don't dig into the chords too much when playing fast, try and catch them with the very tip of your pick so they slide over easy
>When switching strings, move your whole arm, not just your wrist.
>Always keep your fingers touching the fret a bit.
>Play whatever music you like.
