I really like the way this album transitions from metal to ambient, are there more albums like this?
a feature of that early black metal is they would have a synth track in the beginning or at the end and thats how dungeon synth started
nigga this shit is metal and ambient at the same time

That's the vibe the genre tends to go for. I listen to it while making D&D characters.
Boris' Flood goes the other way sort of

nice
Did you listen to Hvis Lyset Tar Oss? it's his other album that's like this. both are god tier. unfortunately he never made any other albums like them

All of the first 4 albums are amazing.
Is it me, or do people just get bored by black metal when they get more into it.
I liked the second wave and maybe just a few underground bands like Master's Hammer, but everything else sounds either exactly the same or tries too hard to reinvent music. I can't see what makes bands that imitate Burzum and Darkthrone so interesting, or have I been only listening to the wrong bands?

yeah I had a similar experience where I enjoyed some of the more entry-level albums but as I tried to get deeper into teh genre a lot of it was just lamer versions of the 'real thing'.
I found Storm of the Light's Bane to be a really great andrefreshing album for me that's black metal as fuck but still interesting and different from the rest of them
i'm a total pleb when it comes to black metal though so don't take my word for gospel

I was about to recommend mortuusinsomnis blog as a good place to find some good underground black metal but it's been taken down again.

Xasthur, particularly his later stuff, tends to blur the lines between black metal and ambient.
Also recommend checking out Coldworld, Sieghetnar, Velvet Cacoon, Evilfeast and Darkspace for similar stuff as well.
