Here's my take. It's simply the best. It's everything you could ask out of post-hardcore. It has the Slint feel down completely without feeling like it's ripping them off. It's thoughtful, complex, and organic. It's not yet up its own ass like a lot of post rock, and it's not basic/noisy/aimless like later Fugazi. It's some beautiful middle ground between prog and post hardcore and it has the hooks and awesome vocals to back up the song writing.
I don't remember thinking the rest of their albums were nearly as good as this album. Thoughts? Thoughts on the rest of their oeuvre?

June of 44 doesn't get the credit it deserves. It is one of the best math rock bands period. And, featuring Rodan's musicians, it's really on the ground floor of the whole genre.
Some of their work is easily on par with Spiderland.
I think Four Great Points is the band's magnum opus. Tropics is still excellent though. The only weak June album is that last one.
