the biggest album discovery you've found this year.
Isn't this like 2 years old?

I didn't say it must be an album that's released this year))
bumping this so many times these last months
>>74566420
what album is this?
I remember listening to one song from it and loving it
Came out in 2014, but holy shit this one's good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPnWLUEWBQc&t=1853s
it's musically pretty basic, but it had amazing atmosphere
>>74567770
Harmlessness by The World is a Beautiful Place and I'm no longer afraid to die
>>74567826

This by a mile. Cant believe I havent seen The Drones talked about on /mu/ before.
>>74567878
Yeah I can't believe you haven't either
Have you listened to Strange Tourist yet? Get on that
>>74567895
Absolutely. I think Liddiard could be one of my new favorite singer/songwriters.
no idea how i never gave this a listen. great record
thanks rym
no clue why i didn't try it out earlier
Honestly not even that bad desu, obviously not his best but still up there in my opinion.

>>74568053
>>74568030
Are you both me? Two of the best albums I've ever gotten into despite being so late getting into them.
Pic related is another. I'm shocked I never listened to this last year, considering that was when I got into Unknown Pleasures, Pornography, and TH77. Fucking love this album.
>>74568109
That Devo album is amazing, that was one of my favorite albums in 2015.
>>74568067
it's too bad his other albums are just bad attempts to make this again
>>74568053
This is a god tier winter album though.
>>74568282
It's a god tier album for any season.
sorry for shitty paint job but these have stood out to me so far
All of his albums today
>>74566453
>))
Slavs GTFO!
this album is shit
>>74567619
Honestly, this is a flawless pop album as far as I'm concerned.
Not normally a fan of R&B but this is a contender for AOTY for me. Up there with Paramore's After Laughter.
>>74570470
Oh right, it's "digital druglord" by Blackbear if you're interested

>>74566459
This is 2 years old, the debut is 5.
>>74566420
The World Is A Beautiful Place is honestly one of the biggest band discoveries for me so far in this post adolescent period of my life. There's few band's I've discovered since college have had as much of an impact.
third world wonders
>>74570470
ew
>edgy teen that was drawn by the drugs on the front
this truly ignited my love of post-punk
If you're into japanese shoegaze, i strongly recommend this album.
>>74570960
No, long-term drug user with huge relationship issues who is 26 and otherwise successful. Close though.
>>74567985
I always thought that was a reaction image, not an albumcover. Reminds me when i had a wallpaper for 3 years that was actually an albun cover
>>74570470
good shit, anon, thanks
>>74569977
Someone else actually listened to this besides me?
didn't really like it too much, but glad you did.
>>74567828

Honorable mention to if you're feeling sinister by belle & sebastian
>>74566420
Literally one of their worst releases
>>74567813
I was gonna post this too. Weird
Crazy noise rock album, reminds me of early Ween and Butthole Surfers.
>>74572167
It's a pretty sad R&B album basically about how he wants to be a nice person but is fucked up and fucks tons of chicks and does tons of coke and is regretful he can't get away from it, so it is fitting
>>74571919
good album
>>74572025
title?
>>74572379
I'll have to check this out, love me some Butthole Surfers.
>>74572464
Band is Wakusei Abnormal, album is Nandemonai Kyoki (何でも無い凶器; Nevermind The Deadly Weapon)
>>74567828
this, I am just getting into Zappa now.
These guys
I thought that a ""christian"" band would've been shit, but they are very good actually.
Nice melodies and post rock playing. Sometimes they seem like gy!be (for some long stasis, but at least they say something in between). They're very underrated, should be more considered by the critics
>>74572285
do it, it's some great stuff

>>74573586
Not that guy but this is one of my all-time favorites, listened to it recently and it still blew me away
They've got a new album coming out next month, I know a lot of people don't like their new stuff but I think it's very nice, if different than TGS
>>74572689
Yet to listen to this, but that sure is a shitty album cover.
>>74573671
holy fuck anon, this is pretty damn good
>>74573671
the opener is legendary
>>74573650
I'm pumped for the release too. I was out of them for a while but Flies to Flame got me listening again, made me realize how bloody good they were and are.
>>74573342

fuck yes, anon. they're quite good.
>>74567974
this for me too
>>74566515

I was so fucking late to the OF train, I couldn't stand them in the late 00's/Early 10's but a couple of months ago they just clicked. Earl is the only OF member I've followed from the start.

>>74575158
This is such a great album!
Just listened to this today
>>74575386

I first checked this out around the time it was released and remember hating it for some reason.
Gave it another just a month or so ago and ended up loving it enough to check out his discography.
I really don't know why I disliked this so much years ago.
Gave this a go at the very beginning of the year. Good shit.
it finally clicked, dat negative space

has anyone here listened to this album yet? p good imo 7/10

>>74566420
Pic related as far as surprises go.
When it got BNM on P4k i briefly listened to one of the songs for like a minute and wasn't impressed so i just skipped the record, but a month ago or so i watched the KEXP performance and fell in love with the album.
"Do You Need My Love" is my favorite song currently. It is such a well structured and well written song. Especially how she sneaks that Bb in there with the E and Am and her vocal melody ties it all together beautifully.
this is fucking incredible
As edgy as it is I keep coming back to it
I already knew of the album and knew some songs off of it. But only this year I decided to seriosuly give the album a listen. And from there this album lead the to Quebec, then C&C and then Pure Guave and White Pepper and then The Pod and from there the rest of their discography. Meaning that this one album lead me to listening and loving the shit of a new favourite artist.
I found out Gulag Orkestar is better, but I'm still thankful to the anon who rec'd my new favorite band.
>>74566420

Easily their worst.
Also, what a terrible album cover. :/
>>74577090
all I'm saying is this is all shit for people that are VERY late to the party here. almost everything in here was discussed to death on /mu/ at one point or another. I just can't imagine anyone that was here ~pre-2011 not knowing any of these artists and albums
>>74566503
Fantastic!
>>74577140
Maybe not everyone has unlimited time and only recently got around to listening to these?
>>74577171
that's fine. I'm just wondering how many people are actually new here, like post-2012 at minimum.
Mostly because I'm curious and confused as to where the last 8 years of my life went
>>74577244
I've been lurking here on and off for about 2 years.
>>74571760
Agreed.
These guys need to get off their "high brow" shit. It's meaningless and contrived.

>>74578224
I had the same experience. I left it almost a hear after the first listen and then when I returned to it, I realized how phenomenal it is. Love this album
>>74576772
Checking out Portrait for the first time in ages myself. Just got to "Dope Hat" and it's as fun as it was in 8th grade
>>74570948
One of this years stronger albums for sure. Nicki in particular is a fantastic track.
>>74572025
Yoooo, I love this album. It reminds me so much of Shiina Ringo.

I also listened to this for the first time this year. Outstanding album.

MotFD is a great band.
>>74573865
I used to listen to these guys but never heard this album.

>>74575386
You lucky bastard. I wish I could listen to this for the first time again. It may be my favorite album ever.

Seconding Shouso Strip. Sanmon Gossip and her material with Tokyo Jihen is also great.
>>74575874
Ecophony Gaia is really good too.
>>74576772
Honestly not a bad album. This and Mechanical Animals are pretty good listens.
>>74577395
This is tied with Kalk Zamen Kuri no Hana as my favorite album overall.
>>74578261
Thanks for reminding me this exists. I need to listen to it again.
>>74578545
How is The Dreaming tied with Kalk Samen?
>>74578580
Because they're my two favorite albums. I can never pick which one I like better.

At first this album kinda confused me and I didn't understand why anyone would want to listen to a punk album mixed with all the slower-paced and synth-heavy songs
Now I kinda think it might be perfect
>>74578763
Need to listen to this one again
Heard it for the first time a few weeks ago and there hasn't been a day since that I didn't listen to Conch
It's a toss up between: Blackbird by Alter Bridge. I already knew like three songs off of it but downloaded the whole thing a few weeks ago and it's a really, really good rock album. The other album is Consolers of The Lonely by The Raconteurs. Like everyone else who was in high school in 2008 I had heard of Salute Your Solution but I only just downloaded the whole thing a few months back. Really solid and I must recommend the opener "Consoler of the Lonely", a song that was a single "Many Shades of Black" and the closer, "Carolina Drama".
I'd also add the album New Junk Aesthetic by Every Time I Die. I had already listened to it prior to 2017 but didn't really appreciate until now. It's essentially perfect in my opinion and is now one of my favourite albums.
>>74576883

If you actually believe this you're either under 18 or just started getting into music in the last year
>>74580047
Been on /mu/ since 2010 or so, and I'm 23. Once again, I'm sorry you don't get the appeal but it clearly isn't an album for you.
>>74576883
List to pure guava and thEn choc and cheese u bonehead
>>74580321
I get the appeal it's just a terribly produced album with garbage songwriting
>>74580538
Once again, you don't get the meaning behind the lyrics. I didn't until I watched the artists 3 hour long video talking about it. (Granted I never really "get" lyrics.) There's great flow in all the raps and the beats are a lot of fun. Fat and Dangerous, Paradise, and Gay and Dead being the standouts for me.

"Stab" is timeless
>>74567813
Someone commented "nostalgia for the present". Seems about right.
I have no excuse for waiting as long as I did. I've known of this albums existence and how good it was supposed to be since 2012 as a dumb 18 year old.
Holy fuck is it good though, it was an instant 10/10 for me.
Everyone says it's a generic hipster album but I like it.
Not gonna lie, if it wasn't for p4k I'd never have looked into it.
>>74576193
I honestly prefer isn't anything to loveless even though loveless is still pretty amazing. I like how much rawer and darker isn't anything is compared to loveless. Both are still 10/10 to me desu. Also check out ecstasy as well.

Not really a discovery, but i decided to re-listen to this in full and it finally clicked, not only that, but now a lot of other stuff like Sonic Youth, Swans, Loveless and shoegaze in general has started to click as well.
>>74573275

this plus that Trouble song on Twin Peaks: Millennials
honestly expand this to not only the whole discography, but the whole genre
Not the first time I've listened to it this year but I just keep coming back to it, each time sooner than the last. The same thing happened to me with English Settlement.

>>74585449

>>74574579
This is great
Somehow I never got around to listening to it until a few months back. I regret skipping over it in my backlog for so long, makes me wonder what else I'm missing out on in there.
I had a girlfriend who hated morrissey with passion. I guess more than anything that was what was stopping me from listening to them. After we broke up I got really into the smiths for the first time and now i think morrissey is a qt and i love him
Only got on the Frank train in the months leading up to panorama fest, but fuck I'm glad I did.
Most of OF as a whole desu, though I've listened to some Tyler and Earl prior
Never tried shoegaze, but decided to give it a shot with that album, then went back and listened to their earlier stuff and I honestly like this much more, it just sounds mature and self-contained.
No Longer Making Time is a jam (even if the chord progression is basically the same as like half of their other songs)

>kinda curious about them
>find out they're a bunch of cop-hating all-talk nu-males
Dodged a bullet there

Their music isn't political. Why would this bother you? Is your dad a cop?

Can't listen to a bunch of limp-wristed manchildren who don't know the reality beyond their closed gate condos

So nothing that would bother you if you weren't an ideologue. Cool
Honestly, this has been on constant rotation for me. It's fallen into my all time favorites because it's everything I want in an album. I want an album to not only make me move or dance, but also kind of challenge what I think about a genre or remind me what I love about it in the first place. This kind of does both in the best ways.

This is an album that has stayed on any of my media devices for years. Love this record.

I listened to Rodeo when it first came out and wasn't impressed. Now I listen to it and love every minute of it. I think Birds In The Trap will probably be the same way with enough time for me.

This looks like some shit I'd be into. Thanks anon.

This is a great starting point to get into jazz. For sure try some of the other greats of jazz and move on from there. Some of Miles Davis' best stuff is his weirder shit.

Beardcore sounds like some shit I need to be into asap. Thanks anon.

This was me around this time last year. I got rec'd it in a board last year and I loved it. I'm not as depressed as I was, so the punch this album had is kinda lost on me, but I'll probably learn to love it again once I feel sad once more...

BOI. This album doesn't get a lot of love and I honestly don't get why. A great emo album that is now just shit on because of their fame.

Seems like a lot of people discovered this album this year, weird.

reminder that haircuts for everybody is the best song on the album
