Based on the insanely high RYM scores, I decided to check out a few albums considered "post-rock" such as Lift Your Skinny Fists and the album pictured.

There is nothing I neccessarily dislike about these albums, I just feel like I'm missing something that other people are getting.

Is there something I am missing? Does post-rock deserve all the acclaim it gets?
>>
Agaetis Byrjun and Lift your skinny fists are great, but check out Laughing Stock it's literally one of the best albums of all time

Godspeed is good if you like emotionally dishonest pleb music, I guess

It depends.
OST-bait bands like Sigur Ros and Mogwai are trash, but legit post-rock like GY!BE or the first wave fags is great.

I agree Mogwai are shit but early Sigur Rós are actually good. Their latest wasn't too bad either

I don't dig post rock. I like active music, active in a very different way
>>
Try Spiderland

Post-rock is kinda like a branching tree, where there were a few progenitors that go off in different directions and everyone takes from there. There is no cohesive sound to what is considered post-rock so you might even argue that it is not a genre. From what I can gather, you don't like the slower and more ambient post-rock so you can cross off Talk Talk and Bark Psychosis for now.
You might like the krautrock-inspired side which consists of Stereolab, Pram, Tortoise. Start with pic related

Bark Psychosis.

You will thank me later

Listen to spider land

Not sure either really. For some reason it became the "patrician" Post-Rock album. SoE is better

"OST-bait"
I like this.
>>
>>74558786
Try 2010's Swans honestly, it's the only thing labeled post-rock that I like a lot.

It took a while for me to get into. I came back like a year later after listening to a lot more music and it started to feel a lot more appealing. Future Days was probably the first post-rockish album I really loved.
