Should I give in to my decade-long dream and buy a Theremin?
Is it really that hard to play?

What do you think you will gain out of this experience?
>pick up girls?
Definitely not
>get a gig?
Definitely not
>gain a mentally stimulating skill?
Only if you practice an hour a day for a full year
>contribute to a cover of the Beach Boys' hit "Good Vibrations"?
It's possible
>>74546538
looks p. tricky to master. follow your heart
imo nobody's ever really made them look like less than a novelty
>>74546593
greater* than a novelty, my bad. you get the idea

Not OP, but is an hour a day really enough to learn how to play an instrument like the theremin? I've never played one, but it seems like a very difficult instrument to play.

An hour a day is enough time to learn how to do anything desu; it would be unrealistic to spend more than that on a hobby. However you really do have to keep it up for at least a year if you want to get to a level of playing in public. For the theremin, since intonation is so difficult, it might take a month until you can play the major scale in tune, but eventually muscle memory will get you there

>pick up girls
>get a gig
Superficial aspirations that don't concern me.
>gain a mentally stimulating skill
Yes

>Beach Boys' hit "Good Vibrations"?
That has no Theremin in it.
I'd hope to play The Swan by Saint-Saens or Schubert's Ave Maria

There are a few serious Thereminists:

If you do, get one of the Moogs that double as a midi controller. Lots of unexplored musical territory to be had:

if you're gonna latch onto a niche instrument let it be a good one OP. buy something that sounds great like a marimba or a silly toy flute
>>74546726
it does have a theremin in it, only in the chorus and it's like three phrases tho
>>74546619
it really isn't, sure you're gonna progress, but at a snail's pace. 2 to 3 is what's gonna really push you forward, I do 5 but then again I'm a NEET

It's a Tannerin
Brian Wilson's drug-addled mind remembered it wrong which added to the confusion
Not unless you wanna go to Gitmo rueski
