To be honest though, most of it is pretty derivative. I don't think the genre has progressed much since Souvlaki.

Have you even listened to the album? It may not be what people here consider shoegaze because "muh fuzzed guitars with slight tremolo" but the songs themselves are a lot further from pop than songs like Machine Gun, Alison, Spanish Air, or any other song from Souvlaki, Just For a Day, or their new shitty album.
