Just got Endless Falls on vinyl finally. Was the album that got me into ambient orginally, maybe 5 years ago now. Been playing it non stop

The album in the OP is probably a good place. I started out with stuff that could be seen either as more immersive or more boring, like Steve Roach (check out Structures from Silence for instance)
Brian Eno (check out ambient 1, 4 or apollo) and Stars of the Lid (check out music for nitrous oxide) are two other classic ambient artists

Eh, yeah it can be to a degree. I'm seeing more visible artists like Huerco S. hit the scene. Today's ambient has transcended that schmaltzy New Age trappings that defined the genre up until about recently. Downtempo and ambient influenced production in other genres are more popular than ever.

Hi /ambient/. I don't really know your genre well, so apologies for being a dabbler or dilletante or whatever.
I really dig Alio Die's album Deconsecrated and Pure, and was hoping you could suggest something similar. I've listened to a lot of his other stuff and none of it hits me the same way. Basically anything that prominently uses samples of mediaeval vocal music would be nice. Rennaissance/baroque/other classical choral would be cool, too. If there's a subgenre or chart or something like that I could bite into, I'm game. Thanks.

My favorite type of ambient is space music. I used to just listen to it before I went to sleep but now I listen to it in the morning on the way to work to mitigate anxiety and put my mind at ease before I enter the fuckzone of my career.

This is beatless, soundscapey shit. Don't expect active listening like The Orb or Carbon Based Lifeforms (although I like both of them very much.)

a like a lot of Hecker's more focused albums like Virgins (but that's probably more power ambient leaning and shit). Other than that, I adore a lot of dark ambient like Sleep Research Facility and albums like Stalker (by Lustmord and Rich). Put I am quite partial to more upbeat ambient like Voight's "Pop" in the OP. Ambient is quite a versatile genre so it's hard to say what my favorites are.

Also I'm drunk and not proof-reading so pardon an incoherencies. I'll post my chart if need be.

OPN favorites are Replica and R+7 (Returnal to a slightly lesser - but it IS more ambient i m o)

All four (or five) albums are great. Replica (by OPN) is easiest out of all of them.

I'm going through Gas' discography

So I listened to Gas' s/t album and it had some cool ideas in it, but it felt very long-winded and it could've been much shorter.
Zauberberg felt like a much more realised and matured album compared to the first, a very good album imo. Not perfect, of course. Gotta listen to it again to really get a clearer opinion.
Also listened to Oktember, which was good as well. Still though, the two tracks could've been a bit shorter, and maybe some variation to them.
I still gotta listen to Modern EP, completely slipped my mind when I went into this. So what are your guys' opinions on his albums as Gas? I'd love to hear em.
