In fact, your liking of these generic artists who are masked as amazing and superior hip hop leads me to believe that you are the one who is underage.

hip-hop is actually the opposite of rock n roll in one way. for some reason, the more underground and indie an artist is, the better they are. the closer they are to complete obscurity, that's where 'real hip hop' is.

however, most of those guys sound exactly like every other 'indie' rapper - the samples are generally breezy and unimaginative (except LUM), leaving the tracks to rest on the lyrics. and generally, it takes a lot of work in hip hop to be even relatively unique.

the truth is that hip-hop probably peaked with Public Enemy and the bomb squad, they're the most experimental hip-hop has ever sounded and still do almost 30 years later. madlib comes close but he falls into 'indie' cliches as well

Yes, I too enjoy the intellectually stimulating conscious and experimental hip hop and not the trap garbage that is played on the radio like Denzel Curry and Future. The production is amazing, but the terrible lyricism stops me from enjoying it. I wish all the trap rappers would die to make way for true lyricists like Hopsin and Joyner Lucas.
