I love this album but Fracking Fluid Injection almost ruins it. It's 9 minutes of bullshit noodling around and does not fit the tone of the rest of the album. Really breaks the flow of the second half of the album. Plus there's the 20-minute ambient intermission seems also to go pretty much nowhere.
So I guess Shaking the Habitual could be considered incredibly self-indulgent. It's a solid 9/10, despite this. It pulls off self-indulgence gracefully, I guess.
Metal Machine Music was made entirely just to piss off Lou Reed's label.
