Objectively a JD ripoff: low sometimes melodic bass, sharp snares cut with low toms, and the dude's voice. Very shitty poetry that they take just too seriously, seemingly countless amounts of bad lines. Not bad but if you're reading this you probably overrate this and so do all your friends.

Interpol were just an extremely inauthentic Joy Division substitute for trust fund kids living it up in NYC. The only reason it is as revered as it is now is because it made typical post-college upper middle-class anxiety about not knowing what job to get or not getting laid sound grandiose and tortured. These kids thought they were living in late 70s Manchester, but in reality they were living in an episode of Girls.
Eventually all those rich kids decided that what they wanted to do was write for Pitchfork or Rolling Stone for a living, and now everybody is supposed to buy into the claim that this shit band was somehow important and that this album is somehow a genuine cultural landmark. Of course they weren't, and of course it isn't. It is some of the most vapid music ever recorded.
