Most of this stuff wouldn't have bought anyways because its either too old or too obscure. This thread is about descovering new music, if we wanted to support artists we would buy physical copies, merch or just go to shows.
Also as a musician myself I and every other musician I know have no problem with file sharing as long as you arn't burning CDs and distributing or some other ridiculous shit like that
I shouldn't have fallen for this bait

All of the bands we have posted are disbanded and all profits either go to charity or to old ass labels who barely make anything at all on this stuff.
Try reporting and you won't get anywhere, share threads have been around for a long time. Take your backwards ass thinking back to plebbit
>>74511749
There are more bands able to make livings off of touring and record sales than ever before. Do you know anything about the DYI scene? It thrives off this shit. Most bands are alright with file sharing because it gives them exposure they otherwise wouldn't have gotten and with this new wave of exposure bands are capable of selling much more merch.
>>
>>74511685
Also, not to mention, that most if not everything shared here is available for legal streaming that the bands themselves condone and make little off of. Bands understand that they aren't going to make jack shit off of digital sales myself included
>>
>>74511917
Fuck streaming services too.

I've got news for millenials, you don't need every album every made. It's a stupid lie to start with.

BUY whatever records you can afford or need and really listen to them and develop a relationship with them.

You're ultimately cheating yourselves.

I agree in principal, I understand the experience is inherently better when you own the CD and cherish it but at the same time literally thousands of artists wouldn't have a quarter of the success they do without the internet. It is a double edged sword my man.

>>74512046
Miss worded that, I'm sure record labels do royalties fairly. But Lync has all of its stuff up for charity, as an example

>>74512085
And? No one is claiming it's the same level, people idolize the old scene. The only reason the DIY scene is even a thing now is because of the internet, the old one died because people grow up and trends change, not because the big bad internet fucked you over

Then respect fucking Lync's wishes and make sure the charity gets the $.

>the old one died because people grow up and trends change,

Again bullshit. My generation had a scene in the first place because of guys like Greg Ginn and Ian Mackaye who passed it down.

>You have truly proven yourself as a bitter old man
Im not a bitter man at all. I still buy new music (cassette). Lots of talented young people outthere. Mostly electronic music from acts who don't tour, which is sad.

Reality is you can't have a DIY/indie scene if the ethos aren't respected.

Agreed. Ian Svenonius once said, "Alan Greenspan created electroclash". It's a losing battle though. While on one hand it's cool that this music still resonates with kids; a lot of these artists are 45+. Whose going to take up the reigns? A bunch of fake indie bands composed of globalist's kids playing corporate festivals? It's weird because it seems like kids now are more politically aware than ever, yet they still don't get that THEY have to pay for and support non-corporate culture. They still don't seem to fully understand that.

I think most of us buy music on vinyl or whatever when we have the money to but most of us are also pretty fucking broke dude. There's literally no downside to people hearing new music for free when they can't afford it, or it's not even available to buy. It's free exposure to the artist and no one is being deprived of anything. Not that I don't think artists should be paid for their work but the idea that music is inherently a commercial product that can only be enjoyed by those with the privilege to buy it contradicts the whole point of artistic expression

Music isn't free to make my man. Artists make less money now than they did 20 years ago. The 'we're really giving them free exposure' argument is spurious at best. (free exposure to what? get paid a poverty wage to play some monster energy drink festival or whatever?) You're not entitled to their work.

I understand being broke, but despite what these corporate tech companies tell you, you don't need 1000 records.

Whatever though. Food for thought. Like some anon said earlier, non-corporate culture can't exist if the end-consumer isn't willing to financially support it. It's ultimately your generation's choice.

It's fucking bizarre. Independent media channels are more important now than they've been in 30+ years. I'm not sure there has ever been a more important time to start a band or a record label. And the kids who should be championing this are more interested in gibs.

>Who are these under 30 bands the internet has helped so much? Where are the classic records?
Scene is dead, was making a general statement. That being said the current scene would not exist if it weren't for the internet and social networking, album streaming and sharing has kept people afloat through publicity, otherwise they wouldn't make a dime
>the old one died because people grow up and trends change
>Again bullshit. My generation had a scene in the first place because of guys like Greg Ginn and Ian Mackaye who passed it down.
How does this disprove my point? People grow up, they change. Punk isn't popular anymore, neither is grunge or emo, this is because they got replaced. Rock music in general is not popular with youth, this isn't because some people started sharing records on a Tibetan basket weaving forum, its because popular culture was hijacked. If anything we are the only people who are getting introduced to this music and the legacy lives through younger generations or no one at all

>Im not a bitter man at all
>Enjoy Lil Peep on Spotify. That will be your generation's music scene.
What did he mean by this?

>>74513328
This general thread isn't dedicated to 'fighting the man' or some shit, don't know what that kid said (looks like he got banned) but I will tell you I lug around my heavy ass Ampeg amp and old as shit fender every time I want to practice with my band. It's sort of hard to accomplish anything when you live in a town with no scene and are contemplating moving to another state just for a shot at being apart of one, you are assuming things about people. Honestly this kind of music NEVER gets shared in these threads, i'm surprised one guy posted Lync, so don't think there is some large group of basement virgins who are pissing on the names of 'the hardcore bands' of the past by doing what they can to listen to and appreciate their music.
>>
>>74514832
You should listen to this guy: >>74514537

Reestablish DIY ethics, self-police, don't rely on the internet or trust these tech companies, and you should/could have the most fertile/important music scene since the corrupt LA police force where trying to shut down Black Flag.
>>
>>74514307
Djentspammer must return
>>
>>74514937
>Reestablish DIY ethics
The emo scene has pretty much kept this alive, more bands just need to adopt it so it gets back to previous levels. Ironically with the advent of Bandcamp and the like bands arn't interested in getting signed to major labels; they just want to get a record out, tour and be apart of a community (myself included)
>self-police
I legit don't know what you mean by this
>don't rely on the internet
On a large scale this will never happen but house show scenes in Albany and Denton are doing well through word of mouth
>Don't trust tech companies
The majority of scenes are completely held by the balls of the establishment, they think that the globalists are on their side. This would be a major uphill battle
>>

By self-police, I mean the scene enforces it's ethics itself. Means things like stealing records from your peers and doing business with corporations should be shunned.

I would argue that being dependent financially on a company like BC, isn't all together different than being signed by a major label.

I'm shocked that kids don't see these tech companies for what they are and can't see through the globalist's lies. When we were coming up we held all corporate entities with a great deal of mistrust. And the thing is they're probably more corrupt now then they where then.

So if you ask me would I rather have 200 people listening to that song or $200, I would take the 200 people. I don’t think it’s nearly as dire as the major labels do. The uproar over file-sharing, it really wasn’t damaging the major labels as much as they’re saying. They’re just predicting that if they don’t say something now it’s gonna get them later on. I say good riddance. If Dischord has to go as part of it, if it means destroying major labels, then I’m fine with that." -Ian MacKaye

>>74519895
The older liberals have trouble admitting they were conned. Is what it is. They still think it's the 80s and they're like battling Jesse Helms. Even the smart ones can't bring themselves to admit shit like Planned Parenthood is a lie.
>>
>>74520150
Car Seat Headrest got pretty big and they started off of bandcamp, of course I wouldn't say they're Fugazi level of quality. If you're going for the whole everyone's a corporate shill route, didn't all this stuff happened in the 80s when Husker Du and The Replacements signed onto major record labels? Why would corps even need to shill people pirating music, that's been done for decades before.

>>74520160
No problem, listen to In On the Kill Taker next.
>>
>>74520299
Yeah it did start in the 80s. They don't give a shit about the records and neither do I. Anyone with 2 brains cells to rub together can get whatever they want to for free. What's important is the culture. What's important is people thinking beyond some 'free' digital songs.

And CSH rest are on fucking Matador, which is farrrrrrrr removed from it's indie Gerard Cosloy days. They play the fucking Pitchfork festival.

That this was your best counter-example proves my point.
>>
>>74520542
Matador hasn't been an indie for 20 years.

>>74520631
Your BEST example is on a long standing crypto-indie. The same fucking crpto-indie that releases Sadie Dupuis and her fucking safe space hotline.

It started earlier than the 80s, even in the 70s bands like The Clash and Sex Pistols were groomed by the music industry, The Ramones were on Warner before they ever got big, you act as if the scene was completely pure. If there could be underground/non-mainstream scenes during then there certainly can be now, but go ahead and blame the Jews for everything, it would be just what they want.
>>
>>74520808
You're not wrong. These labels just got more and more communist. There is simply no comparison to what's going on now. This is a level of totalitarianism I've yet to see before in my lifetime. It's out of control.
>>

To the ignorant dude saying that all piracy is bad forever and ever:
Hi, I'm Anon and I live in Bumfuck Thirdworldcountry, it's a really cool place. I buy music on Bandcamp when I can afford it, supporting indie artists with what I can.
I make 500$ a month and that's an above average salary here. I'm sure you'll go "Well if you don't have the money - you don't deserve the music". But you know what, fuck that. Music saves me every time I'm in my fucking bed feeling numb and wanting to end it all. Music makes me feel better about life and about art and about fucking everything. Music is for everyone, art is for everyone, and trying to restrain it is not only ignorant, but harmful in the long term. HUNDREDS of records are lost forever because nobody ripped them and shared them. Artists will fade into obscurity. Their art will be forgotten. Because sad boys like you told everyone "Don't you dare copy this or you're literally Satan".
Thanks to these sharethreads I've discovered a myriad of new music to listen to: Japanese city pop, flute jazz, queerpunk, ambient weird shit, some fucked up Czech synthpop. Do you think I would've seen ANY of those albums had some anon not posted them here? Fuck no, they are some obscure shit. The aim of this thread, at least for people like me, is to "keep circulating the tapes" of obscure music and to find something new and beautiful to listen to. No art should fade or disappear. Not when we have the means to save it.

To anons that share the music: thank you, you're cool people and I appreciate your uploads and efforts to acquaint the others with music that you like.

To BU-BU-BUT PIRACY IS EVIL: try to actually think about this situation. Just this once. Cheers, buddy.
