I think most of us buy music on vinyl or whatever when we have the money to but most of us are also pretty fucking broke dude. There's literally no downside to people hearing new music for free when they can't afford it, or it's not even available to buy. It's free exposure to the artist and no one is being deprived of anything. Not that I don't think artists should be paid for their work but the idea that music is inherently a commercial product that can only be enjoyed by those with the privilege to buy it contradicts the whole point of artistic expression

How does this disprove my point? People grow up, they change. Punk isn't popular anymore, neither is grunge or emo, this is because they got replaced. Rock music in general is not popular with youth, this isn't because some people started sharing records on a Tibetan basket weaving forum, its because popular culture was hijacked. If anything we are the only people who are getting introduced to this music and the legacy lives through younger generations or no one at all

The emo scene has pretty much kept this alive, more bands just need to adopt it so it gets back to previous levels. Ironically with the advent of Bandcamp and the like bands arn't interested in getting signed to major labels; they just want to get a record out, tour and be apart of a community (myself included)
